its quite common to get the head flowing nicely by cleaning the radius / slight reshape, THEN to get little bits of putty, about the size of a match head, and start filling it back up where it WONT effect CFM. All you are doing is basically removing a spot where "dead air" can gather. Its surprising how much you can fill a port up.

Its a long process, and as you said hansj, a flowbench is only a "tool" like a spanner or a screw driver.. It only has one job, to test raw CFM. you CANT test velocity or swirl or resonance as you said. But its a good starting point.

i've also linked here and credit is obviously left with you.
sorry i should have asked first, if its a problem please let me know and i'll remove it.

make note for the future:

i have NO PROBLEM with anyone reproducing the work i have done, nor do i have a problem with ppl posting information on other forums / places of interest. I think its good to share knowledge and experiences (and possibly failures)

Think of me as a "open source" sorta guy.

41.2mm on the money. 2.5deg lead in taper (about the top 25mm / 1inch) and i stopped short on the bore so i can port it out cleanly on the flow bench to get max velocity / cfm. Obviously it will flow very close to the stock 38mm because of the restriction there, but soon as i start porting it out, it will pick up fairly fast.

Should have some more info / pics in a week or so once i clean it up.. Ill do a final test with the butterflys in there.. Obviously new ones were made, CNC does wonders.

anyway. see how i go.. Still many more things to do.. Takes ages.

any progress on this Quan?

I am very interested seeing I will be running the 900 motor with those very same throttle bodies.

I have a spare set too to work on :)

got to ask this ...will it be more powerfull than a half decent trx ( i.e. about 80 bhp) and will it be faster...if not then why ?
not trying to be funny or owt but its all way above me and id like to know what motivates you to do this kinda stuff =D>

Simply because he CAN. Quantime loves to modify and he`s very proficient at it too, it`s not all motor tuning either, search his posts.

I am all for using standard upgraded parts where ever possible, and lo and behold fuel injected R1's from 2003 have 41mm throttle bodies!

I wonder if it is possible to just split a set in half and get a set or even 2 sets of TDM 41mm TBs out of them? saves the specialist machinery to bore the TDM TBs out if it could be made to work

Hmmm interesting, yes it might well be possible. Although, that said the butterfly spindles could require modification (not sure if there are spindles for the correct length / spacing), but it`s surely not beyond the scope of someone confident in their engineering abilities.
Are there any twins out there with 41 mm throttle bodies paired at a similar distance to a TRX I wonder?

2002-2003 R1 throttle bodies are 40mm as far as I have read.

check these out: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/02-03-YAMAHA- ... 582wt_1163

they look like they might work. I will check the spacings on my fazer thou to get a rough estimate of spacing. You could get a set of those for 60 quid, a bit of modification it could be a cheap EFI option.

Well that would be the basics, how about a fuel pump, the in tank version obviously runs quieter being immersed..but be a shame to cut into the tank and also reduce the fuel volume somewhat..heard some of the aftermarket car pumps..? damn noisey..!

There are plenty of aftermarket fuel pumps available on Ebay, most run ceramic bearings and are VERY quiet, and I might add fairly cheap too.
An example after a quick search:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255-LPH-High- ... 56468369d6

Many motor factors will stock fuel pumps too, I could possible buy them cheaper locally if I shopped around.

Well I have the fuel pump and level sender unit from a TDM900 so I am going to use that.

Need to find a way of grafting it into the bottom of the fuel tank.

A German has it in a thread over at their forum...with pics how he done the 900 pump into TRX tank.
