Key number

Hi everyone,
My 4 year old has lost my one and only key to the TRX :roll: I don't have the key number and am wondering if there is a way of getting it of the barrel, or somewhere, I have looked but can't see anything. :?
My shout, what you all drinking?

I'll have a Guiness and an Ardbeg chaser :D

Not sure you can get any info from ignition. Perhaps Yamaha with the frame and engine number?

Otherwise it's time for a new ignition!

doubt it will have a key number on the barrel but worth a look. you could always send your lock away and have a key cut to it.

otherwise i have a lockset for sale ;)

If you have the ignition, tank and seat locks and keys, that would be great, how much ?

most any locksmith can "read" a lock if you give it to him / her.
They dismantle the lock mech, and make a key to suit the tumblers that are in there.

You can do the same with your house. You can get a mobile lock smith to come to your house, and convert all your doors to one key. Security screen, front, back door, shed, etc.. All to one key.. Saves you having 10 keys on your keychain.

Unbolt the fuel cap (5mm allen keys) and take it to a lock smith, explain the situation, im sure he can sort it out. Should cost the price of a new key + a little labor for "reading" the tumblers. Not too hard at all..

Cheers for that, I have decided upon this route, just locksmiths are pretty thin on the ground these parts.....never a bike thief around when you want one is there? :roll: :lol:

If you lost the key you won't be able to open the cap to remove the hidden bolt underneath it. This stops the cap being merely unbolted to nick the fuel out of the tank.

:? It is possible to remove the rear seat though, and I think that one unbolts.

:D Torx and other strange shaped bolts I can undo as I seem to have about 100 odd looking sockets and drivers in various packets and boxes that I have acquired over the years.

I have had the petrol cap off, just with undoing the allen bolts, the seat catch has two torx bolts holding it on and the steering lock.....well yet to work that out! :?

you can buy torx tools from any hardwarestore, I use them all the time at work so I go through a few.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I have bought a lockset of Kookimonsta, so all sorted there.

Just in case anyone finds themselves in the same position......
Removing the seat catch was easy, once I had purchased a set of torx spanners (2.99 a set from ironmongers) the petrol cap was just a matter of unscrewing the allen bolts and the ignition/steering lock had to be drilled out to release it from the yoke, I removed the whole yoke to make this easier, after center punching the heads and starting it off with a smallish bit, I attacked it with a 13mmm drill bit and it fell off easily, leaving just the bolts which came out nicely with pliers.
So I am all ready for my replacement locks, I only took the bike off the road to have the tank and panels resprayed, so I'm looking forward to scooting around on the TRX, I love my 750-four but I do miss the excitement the TRX offers :wink:
