float height

Post by trix » Fri Mar 28, 2008 11:44 am

I've searched through loads of posts on here about float height but cannot find the answers I'm after.

Both the haynes manual and the yamaha workshop manual talk about measuring the fuel level, no mention is made of measuring the float height. I suppose if the fuel level is correct, then the float height is automatically correct. However, having removed the carbs I have been advised to check the float heights. This method is described on the Factory Pro website, but some vital info is missing;

What exactly am I supposed to measure; (the distance from the deck of the carb to the top of the float maybe?)

What is the standard height? I've seen various figures on this forum varying from 13 mm to 15mm. As no value is given in either Haynes or the Yam manual, how has anyone arrived at their chosen figure?

I suppose I'll just try and measure the fuel level, but I'd love to measure the float height while I have the carbs off and stripped. To measure the fuel level I'll have to put the carbs back on the bike and rig up a fuel supply.
