Cooling water, no rotation!?

Post by Killerwhale » Thu May 22, 2008 12:14 pm

Do you think it would be safe/OK to use some compressed air into the watersystem if everything is opened up!?

I think that due to the time between tourquing down the head and actually riding it the loctite has clogged the waterway´s a bit.

Temp shot up to over 100 when riding it hard so i think there no or very little rotation of the water...

An update....even if i question anyone see my posts.... 8-[

It´s the pressure in the water system wich is to high....it´s like the waterpump working doubletime....
When twisting throttle at 5k it holds to 6k and there i´ve had two water surprises tonight.
First time the pressure pushe one off the hoses right off and i got....well...VERY wet!
Second time i´m not sure but the right leg was wet so i think it was hose doen at the pump.

.....WTF is this????? :?:

sounds to me like you have a blockage.

maybe loctite got into the thermostat or radiator?

I forgot to add...
I first ran it warm...as ´ell...and stripped down radiator and then blew air thru the water hole in the head....of cource open thru the valvecover and at the pump. Blew right thru and as it was warm it smoked a bit and no smoke else where it should be.
Garden hose at full right thru the radiator and it flushed thru well.
Air thru the thermostat no probs either.
Opened the pump cover and nothing to see there.

Must add that on the second run i drove maybe a mile, stopped and let the temp go up to 80-ish and went back towards garage and the temp dropped....did not do that yesterday! Maybe i got more flow now but it´s partially blocked so the pressure is....wettening!!??

...OHHH....And after a "blow out" when i open the radiator it bubbles a lot in the expansiontank....not that it´s strange in any way.... :|

bubbles in the header tank? head gasket methinks. also might account for the pressure in the cooling system.

What can be wrong with the gasket you think?

from what you have described it's blown into the cooling system, so I'd be looking for signs of leakage across to the jacket from a cylinder.

i know you prob have done this but take the cap off the rad and run it full of water. there should be bubbles in the water if its the head gasket. but by the sounds of it it will be. pull it off and check it all out. ensure all the surfaces are all nice and clean and no oil is in there befor you fit it back up. i would not use that loctite stuff again as it is prob a bit of shit stuck in the stuff you put on thats causing the problem.
Is it Brock friendly???

Yes sad to say but sounds like you have created what we used to call a "kettle". Most likely a head gasket or a crack between the combustion chamber and a water passage :(

So the bike will still run as hell and pull as a train although something that serious has happened??

I´ve actually put it on hold for a bit as i´m going to change the camchain while i´m at it, then everything will line up and be easier to set!

Yes it could still run okay. As the pressure of combustion is far higher than the cooling water pressure it only takes a very small amount to the combustion pressure to escape into the cooling system to create the symptoms you describe.

All sounds exactly like when i blew my gasket, i agrre with all others. It wasalmost impossible to see the damage on the gasket, but it was indeed there...
