Anyone from Frome

Hi all, I'm new to Rex ownership and brand new to this site. Just been for a blast round the local area and realised that i don't know one single decent road around here (Frome/Bath/Warminster/Shepton). Anyone from round these parts and knows where to ride? Anyone fancy showing me the ropes?? Tom

Don't know of anyone that close to you ... there are a couple up in Weston-Super-Mare and a couple down towards Southampton. Other than that I think I'm just past Exeter. I used to know a guy called Paul in Frome with a green TRX but he sold it a couple of years back.

As for roads ... well my favourite run goes from Exeter up to Westbay (bikers cuppa stop) and on to Weymouth then back via Crewkerne, Chard and the lovely bit at Yarcombe before hacking back down the A30.

Our summer meet (August bank holiday) isn't far from you and last year I went through past Frome on the road from Shepton to Trowbridge and that was fairly good.

I've heard the roads up Cheddar way are good - not done them myself though.

Perhaps we should have a west-country rideout sometime ... wake a few people up as we thunder past (although mine will be quieter than before with boring standard cans back on ).

Thanks for messages Jak. You're right about the roads around Cheddar, I'd totally forgot about them. Just moved back into the area and have a lot of catching up to do.

This is the first time i've joined a bike forum, so excuse me if i seem a little naive or daft.

I'll look up the local bike forums you suggested, you remember what they're called???

So whats your Rex like? Mine is a green '97 model, the fairing and seat unit are pretty tatty and it could do with some TLC, but it rides beautifully. Picked it up last week and i flippin love it. The noise, torque, handling, presence. Perfect.

hopefully get a chance to wander down in to your part of the world this summer, supposed to be some cracking roads. Shame you're not further east, plenty of decent tarmac round here. 272 mmmm

Hey Brock, good to be here mate. Spent the last 30 mins gawping at all the lovely machinery around. I now feel inspired to get my Rex back to its former glory. Shouldn't be too difficult, new fairing and seat unit will make a huge difference i think. I'll get some pics up and hopefully get some advice on where to start. Tom

Hey Gregs, give us a shout if you get down my way bro. You mention the A272, is that right?? Is it a good route?? I work down in southampton so am nearer your end of the world. Let me know if you get out, as I always ride to work and am free between my night shifts.

Yep the 272 is good fun ... ridden it a few hundred times You'll love the roads down here then and believe me there are a lot more good ones in the west country than in Sussex! Think of the road from Arundel to Storrington and on up to West Chiltington ... then you're on the right lines Oh and while thinking about that ... do you go up there much? Is Di Marinos still there? Best cup of coffee around .. and an awesome collection of bikes!!!

My knowledge of decent roads is about nil cos all of my riding over the years has been commuting/necessary travel. Its about time I broadened my horizons. I need help from you guys.

i'm for ever doing the first section up bury hill at arundel to get to whiteways at the top, 'kin awful road it's all off camber! I have quite a respectable PB getting up there though the other side down to storrington is alright though. If you think that's good, well, we can offer much better than that. Not sure about marinos, if i've ever been there it's unknowingly.

If you're over this was fairly regularly, MB, then yes the 272 is a stonking bit of road. it's nice to ride for the fun of it, it doesn't take long to find good roads, just head of the beaten track a bit and you're bound to find something

I know And the Storrington road I meant was the back one past Amberley Castle although Bury Hill can be fun
