Last month of trx manufacture?

Post by davesta » Mon Jun 09, 2008 4:43 am

Hey all, i was just curious what the final month of trx manufacture in 1999 was? Mine was built in September, i guess i'm hoping mine is one of the last ever made (although i dont see why Yamaha dont just upgrade the tdm900 donk a bit, up power to at least 100hp, chuck it in a trellis frame with previous model r1 suspension and brakes and call it a trx900)

December would have been the final month of manufacture in 1999. :D What do I win ? As for TRX's I think you will find 2000 and 2001 plated bikes. When they were actually made, your guess is as good as mine.

For Oz market bikes ADR's require the compliance plate to list the actual month & year of manufacture. If the bikes sold in 00 & 01 were 99 built the plate will still read 99. If the bikes sold in 00 & 01 were actually built in those years thats what the plate will read.

I am interested to find out when the last Oz market batch was built. Hands up who has a late build bike. Remember if the plate does not list Yamaha Motor Co, Japan as the issuer then it is a grey market bike and the plate reflects when the 2nd hand bike was landed in Oz, not its build date.

I too have been curious about this.

Mine has a Yamaha plate 05/01 and was first registered 10/01

Could this be one of the last into Oz?

 Look at the frame numbers, that will give you a clue as to who has the newest, and the oldest. Frame wasnt used on anything else (was it?)

That would be a bit redundant, as the mandated ADR compliance plate lists the date of final assembly of the whole bike. All the frame number could give you if by some chance you actually knew the breakdown of the frame number codes is how many days, weeks or months prior the the building of the bike the frame was built. I understand that in the UK the lack of a similar compliance plate makes dating vehicles a bit hit and miss, and people just refer to the prefix/suffix on those barn-door registration plates you have to suffer. What could work is if the Oz contingent list their compliance date & the the last digits of the frame number and you lot can compare the numbers to your frame numbers... just an idea.

Hmm interesting, i always thought 99 was the last year of manufacture. Well there you go, learn something new everyday. Kenmore, there couldn't have been too many bought in after yours, mine was first registered early in 2000 and i'm pretty sure Yamaha were trying pretty hard to clear them out by that stage.

I recall 99 as being the last year of manufacture as well. There was a shop in Sydney that done up a batch for 2000 and called them a millennium edition. I figured that they were just trying to move old stock by jazzing them up a bit. Be interesting to find out when the last one rolled off the production line.

just to throw some more grey into an already blurry area.................under the rear seat, on the right hand frame rail, is a white sticker. The top line of this should read 4UNx - xxx . Well in Europe anyway.

What do those stickers show on the Oz bikes? Afaik 4UN4 was the last model year designator, but maybe there was a 4UN5? Just interested.....

According to the handbook supplied with the bike from new that white sticker is a "model label" and needs to be quoted when ordering spare parts. In other words this identifies my bike as an Australian market bike fitted with KPH speedo, left dipping headlight, carbs set for warm climate, etc. ( and most likely a unique ECU/TPS set up to get the thing past local emissions & noise regs). So on my TRX, built 10/96 the little sticker reads 4XG1-010. On the frame there is a little sticker beneath the compliance plate that confirms it passes the Oz drive by noise test and THAT sticker refers to models 4UN1 & 4UN2.

I will take photos of all the above stuff tomorrow. 'Cos its cold outside... about 17degC and dark... and I take photos for a living and I could'nt be arsed taking them for you lot..... [-(

I don't think he does.

V ran from 1/8/99 to 28/2/00.
