If the 'main' TRX site ever comes back online, can people please copy any useful threads so that we can re-post them here.
I may not see the site come up, so if anyone does happen to get lucky, please try and save some of the useful stuff.
Honks 'lightening' thread comes to mind, we wouldn't want to lose a gem like that

hehehe
I was wondering if there is an easy way to automatically copy threads out to a file. I know software exists to copy entire web sites and pages but wonder if that or similar works with this bb software.
I shall have to investigate.
I've been wondering if it might just not be altogether a better solution long term to dump the myfreebb site and create a site that is hosted somewhere a bit more stable. I know there is a cost associated but I don't think it's necesssarily that high.

Burty,
I'm inclined to agree with you about finding a permanent site.
There was approaching 1000 members of the last site and plenty of regulars. I'm sure a few would be happy making a small financial contribution.

Hi Burty, hi Phuk!
I like the idea of a new stable site and a few €, $, or whatsoever of contribution!
If someone would be willing to run a new site he or she should be (at least financially) enabled to do so.
I would be glad to have a share therein!
Greetings from Munich!

What we have here is an overflow site.
I am sure it would be a different story if this were the main site as we would be using up a hell of a lot of Max's storage space and bandwidth.

... there's always the TRXfiles...?
Otherwise I've been known to set up a phpBB-forum or two and I could always get a hosting service (paid for) somewhere with a few GB of storage. Unless Max nows something about this place I don't...
The info on the old forum will be gone unless it come's up again and someone is quick to ask them for the backup sql-file and all the uploaded files OR manages to save every page as html. Which isn´t such a great solution come thinking about it, having all db-data coded into pages
Wasn´t there someone a while ago offering up the trx850.net address?

It's no problem for me to host a 'perma-site' here and these boards don't take up that much storage space or bandwidth... That is unless you are planning on uploading tons of pictures and videos. If they are linked off site, no biggie.
As for purchasing a separate domain and server, I don't mind doing that either, but we would need an annual 'subscription' to pay the bills...
If anyone has an email addy for dougy (or whoever runs the main board), getting a copy of his last database backup (sql file) would be nice in either case.

Shame about the bloody

's though!!!
I haven't got Dougy's details, but I've got email addys for some of the guys who bought shirts

will email them while I think of it!!!

If Max is happy to host a permasite here then I would vote for that as the simplest option. An appropriate domain name might be nice though.
I note that trx850.com is due renewal on 12th september, does anyone know who owns/uses that?
Otherwise all sorts names such as yamahatrx.com or yamahatrx850.com are available for registration for a fairly trivial fee. Not having done it before I'm not sure how easy it is to associate another domain name with Max's board or what other costs or complications that adds.
Otherwise, the TRXfiles forum option is an interesting one and possible as a forum that exists and can be used. I'm not sure why I don't like that forum, I think it's all the other stuff around it that puts me off - strange. But maybe if all the regular posters were there then that wouldn't be an issue.

My current host provider is having a sale on packages right now, $4.95 a month with unlimited bandwidth and 5GB of space... I'm creating one but I want to use a domain name that can cover a broader spectrum than just TRX... I can create sub domains such as "trx.domain.org/com" and "krusty.domain.org/com" etc...
Also, additional domain names can be pointed to the same account at an extra fee.
I'll let you know as soon as I have it set up.

Okay... Just to let you know I have paid for two year's worth of hosting, 5 gigs, unlimited bandwidth and a new domain (to be announced once it is resolved).
This is about $160 US dollars (after domain reg and setup fees) that my wife will kill me over if she finds out...
I'll make a "TRX850" subdomain (which will replace the "www" in the address) for a section dedicated to our cause... I ask for help on the content. Especially anyone that is good at web pages and FTP .
As for the board, I will be moving this one to the new domain later, perhaps enlarging it and the plan right now is to offer "User Groups" to specific groups (such as TRX people) for their own "private" sections.
5 Gigs means a lot of stuff can be put there. Unlimited bandwidth means I won't get attacked by the host nazis reaching for my wallet... I will need some reliable folks to help out with the admin of it.
You people can make the board / webpage into your own database. I will do my best to keep it secure and backed up so nothing gets lost.
Since this is a paid for site, with its own domain (unlike the myfreebb thing) I am able to bitch up a storm with the hosting company if any problems arise.
Please pass the word along. I'll post up an announcement once the DNS thing is resolved.

Actually, I've been thinking that it's probably not a good idea.
Way to go Max.
Have you got a paypal account or sommat, if we chip in $20-30 that only needs a few of us to make up that $160 before Mrs Max finds out.
Anyroad, I don't understand too much, but will be happy help with whatever. I've lots of experience moderating and doing some basic admin with phpbb on another forum.
I guess what we need is some nice graphic and stuff too.
