Re: Cam Timing
why not just go for a chain with a soft link, break the original, join the new one, feed it through, take off the old one join the new one.
lot easier than messing about with internals

Re: Cam Timing
I did my valve clearences at 42000km but did not see any recomendations to change the cam chain, which i thought was odd. I did notice a drop in power but i put this down to the valves not opening as far. Bike has 57000km on it now, motor still fairly quiet no cam chain rattle at all so i figured i would change the chain at 84000km just to be on the safe side.

Re: Cam Timing
If you can manage to get the cams in and out, you can manage to change a (one piece) cam chain... It's easy. Plus you can check the oil pumps are in spec while you're at it....bernardo wrote:why not just go for a chain with a soft link, break the original, join the new one, feed it through, take off the old one join the new one.

Re: Cam Timing
I checked my valve clearance today (all inlet's are out of range <0,05).
I wanted to check the chain but i don't know the original length of the chain?
My camsprockets are a bit off, so that made my worried! so i want to check!

Re: Cam Timing
don't chance it ,if the timings off the chain must be worn , you now have to take the cams out so while its in bits fit a new chain and check the oil pumps ,, let us know how you go on

Re: Cam Timing
cam chain is adjusted by the cam chain tensioner,, if its at the end of its travel ,,new chain ,if marks don't line up , new chain ,,can you see were this is going ? if in doubt new chain

Re: Cam Timing
A tip from the Dutch TDM/TRX club about the timing chain and tensioner:
Remove the spring of the tensioner, put in a screwdriver, rev the bike to 2-3000 rpm and push hard on the screwdriver. this will give a extra click on the tensioner and will remove the rattle.

Re: Cam Timing
I wouldn't recommend that, the spring exerts a certain ammount of pressure for a reason. You could end up, snapping your chain, and the timing still won't be in!!
I can't see a measurement for cam chain length in my Yammy book, as I said B4 if the marks don't line up perfect, and appear retarded
, then it's new chain/sprockets time..

Can I suggest a radical reduction in your TRX's gearing? Might help with the fines, plus it should improve your wheelies.
