Couple of general Q's

Hey, before you say anything I have used the search button

What would be considered high mileage for an engine.

Can you put a fatter back tyre on the standard wheel, and whats the tank range like.

Finally anyone got one for sale

Well mine's done over 90,000 k's and sill gong strong. Not for sale though. In Classic Bike there are two for sale at very good prices.

Mine's showing about 30,000 on the clock (dunno if it's km or miles though, probably half n half) and it's fine. It burns a bit of oil though but 'they all do that sir/madam'. Apparently you can put a 170 on the standard wheel and a YZF750 rear wheel can be fitted without too much drama, so you can get a 180 in there. Dunno why you'd need bigger rubber though, unless you're making up for a deficiency elsewhere... (joke)

Erm... tank range... no idea. An 18 litre tank averaging about 10 miles per litre- 180 miles? Purely guessing on that one though.

Get one, they're great. Stick flat bars on it and ride it like it's a big supermoto

All the TRX clocks are K, milage isn't too much of an issue if the engine has been looked after, probably 40k and I'd want a few quid off for a major service just to make sure.

Why do you want to fit a wider tyre? You can, but what purpose would it serve?

tank range? Quite a long way! around the 200 mark should be easy.

well now i have owned and modified my trx a lot ,,it now does 127miles up to reserve used to do 160 my engine needs some internal TLC as the previous owner didn't do the needle jets which in turn has done the rings/pistons in and it now uses 1lt of oil in 1000 miles (to much) the engine has done about 20,000 miles ,i have a yfz wheel on mine running a 180 tyre ,,bigger tyre =a lot more feedback and grip end of story (and yes i might have a small willy but it will fill a pram, ) my clocks were uk so they showed mph, (only dirty imports have kph speedos ) now weres me jets

a wider tyre doesn't HAVE to mean more grip, grip is about contact patch and just because it's wider doesn't mean you have a greater contact patch, assuming not every one runs the same tyre.

if it measures in kph only it must be a import ,, doesn't a wider tyre have more contact patch ??? i will put some TT100s on and give it a go (this was a 1970s dunlop tyre for those who are not old enough )

I'm sure they all only measure in k, mine reads in k and mph (secondary) but the odometer is in K for sure and I think that's true of all TRX's.

it doesn't have to have a bigger contact patch, if you're using tyres with a narrow profile and some one else is using tyres with a flatter profile then the width is void. The good thing about narrower tyres is they handle faster, and it's not like they're push bike tyres anyway - 160 should be enough on the road really, if you crank over enough that the back goes before the front then you were probably heading for a hedge anyway,

Fairly sure mines mph + miles ... then again, I wouldn't trust me on technical things!!!!

Mileage can be high and if the bike has a service history and not been obviously sh@gged, it should be fine. Theres a big service due, valves and stuff, at 23 or 24k miles IIRC.

Personally, I wouldn't buy anything over 30k miles on any bike, buts thats just me.

Early 95 M bikes had KPH speedos and were restricted and imports
Early 96 N bikes were official UK but still had KPH speedos.
Late 96 on, all were in MPH

A 170 tyre will deform slightly on the standard rim, which is meant for a 160.

Fatter back tyre is more for looks than anything because I'm a whore
Decided to wait until late winter/spring to buy one. I sort of don't see any point in buying one just to get rid of a perfectly crap divvy which I can abuse over the winter while ruining a perfectly good bike in the meantime.
That and I've sort of agreed to buy an R6 track bike, still definatly want to buy one though.
TRX for the road makes more scence, R6 for the track.

Is that Funky's? It's got a bit of a history, not saying "don't" ... but make sure you get it checked out.

Ah, then Martin was right when he said the milage on the clock didn't seem to mesh with the bike. He always figured the clocks had been changed as the bike appeared to him to have done fewer miles than the clocks suggested.

As to "high" mileage:

Mine now has about 76'000 km on the clock and is still very fine
(ok, drinking about 0,75 l oil per 1'000 km, but if that's what she needs ...)
Some of the members' TRiXies of the German TRX forum have more than 100'000 km and I know of one whose TRX has done more than 200'000 km (with new pistons and rings done somewhere down the road ...)

As to the fatter back tire:

I bought mine with 120/70 front and 170/60 rear (standard wheels) and are very happy with it
In the meantime tested original sizes but went back on 120/70 front and 170/60 rear (Michelin Pilot Power): Great grip and also great looks.

From one tank I get out about 270 to 300 km until reserve (with an average of about 6 l / 100 km)

And no, I don't know one for sale ...

Yea I've looked into it a bit, plus its sort of special to me because when I first joined up he took me out on the back of it which really made up my mind about wanting a bike.
Engine is sound 15k on it, track fairings are a bit tatty but its a track bike.
Ohlins shock fully set up to his weight and height, pretty much identical to me.

Will stick the winter out on the divvy then in the new year I will buy one, and put the most obnoxiously loud cans on possible.
