Wanted... Graphics and Top Page ideas for the new page...

Post by tz250w » Sun Sep 10, 2006 9:51 am

When it's up and running the new page address will be...

trx850.motomaniac.net

This will be a "top page" with links to the forum and other 'stuff'...

(There is a placemarker up now at http://www.motomaniac.net )

I guess what I'm asking for are images, what kind of 'sub pages' to put under it etc... I would like to make this as "member supported" as possible. If you can make up some content, send it to me in a zip I can then upload it and add the link. My only worry is copyright infringement.

Please don't just cut and paste from someone else's site. If you have to, read the material, then put it in your own words... Otherwise we should just post it as a link to the original site.

Sections for "Tutorials" "Setup Tips" "Product Reviews" etc would be a good start I think. Special "Corners" for people that have turned their TRX's into evolving art works (Honky comes to mind) would be neat. They would be readily available in web page format. Adding a link to a discussion thread on the BBS would make it fun and valuable for Q&A.

As I said earlier, this can grow into whatever you want it to be.

As for all the offers of contributions, I really appreciate them. It was about $160 for the server and setup fees (for two years). I'm considering buying some easy to use site building software that will probably set me back another hundred or so... If you want to send a contribution my paypal address is max@eikaiwamax.com

Money is not a request... I do however hope for some (a lot, actually...) help in building the site. :D

Please use this thread to mull over ideas and present them.

OK I'm blonde so I'm allowed to ask .....

What do you mean by top page ... do you mean like the headings we post under? Like "Bike Banter", "Fun Stuff" etc ... or am I being thick? 8)

I'm too mechanically challenged to have any useful "How To" information for you to post ... other than how to remove the pillion seat without the aid of a key

I think Max is looking for Content for other sections rather than just forum headings. (I hope I am right).

I think the suggested topics are good.

Tutorials - How to's etc

Set up tips (Might actually fit under Tutorials?)

Product Reviews - I've often found these little used on other forums but it's worth a try.

Corners - I like, a place for info from contributors on their own bikes etc.

I'll work on doing something about my own bike but I don't want to be the first/only contributor.

WRT Forum topics. I would vote to keep it simple and allow it to grow if necessary.

Probably something like: TRX, General Bike Chat, Off topic, Workshop (Technical), Meets, Funnies. I'm never sure if you need a specific section for photo type threads. Or whether you need a separate forum for TRX mods ( could go in TRX or workshop)

One/some good catalogue pics for the top page would be good

you can use it with tires for example, with some stuff that you guys use on you trx and that would be interesting to share with some other people... handlebars, stering dampers...lot's of stuff!

other one that i think you should had max is a "links" section, where we can put links. from exhausts, fibers etc etc..... here in portugal we have a forum about the honda hornet and this section has a lot of stuff for the bike.

man, there´s a lot you can do, but we should try to keep it simple and user friendly....anyway, i'll be around!

Got you some suggestions then Max 8)

Other Forum Topics could be

For Sale/Wanted

Introductions

Track Days (could go in/with Meets)

I'd vote for a separate section for photos, then it's easy to search for pics of each others' bikes - TRX Album? maybe

Meets section could be split into countries?

Sorry, I should have made that clearer... For a "Top Page" I'm talking about an HTML web page, not the forum. However, like the French site, maybe it's not a bad idea using the PHP for the "top page" as well... Just a lot of messing around with templates....

Really not bad,
but (for me) far too black ...

Er, maybe I'm too blind  for that, but I'm missing TRX-related kind of picture bits - or what's that in the upper left corner?

But, as said, with some TRX details (e.g. cylinders with downpipes) and a little more friendlier background color this could be a way to go!
