I hope that link works ok. May have to invest in a couple of dB killers!

Re: noise limits
I'd save your money if it's a 105 day.
A full Akra system is well under that and even my system (which seriously is louder than anything I've ever heard and makes an Akra sound positively quiet 105) can sneak under.
Invest in some DB killers and enjoy
And it only tends to be MSV sites that test anyway

Re: noise limits
from experience (australia), you never get sound tested unless someone complains. And not many ppl at a track day are gonna do that.

Croft up here is pretty much a quiet-only circuit. I'd need dB killers for my bike.

Re: noise limits
Tony,
Depends what the limit is: I did a Saturday day at Mallory which is 98db with no problem. The organisers didn't even test.
Also did a 105db day at Cadwell and was ok: they tested every bike there and mine was 102 with a full system on it.
If they are testing, wherever it is, twins are usually ok as they test at 5,000rpm iirc, whereas il4's they test at 8 or 10k I think.
You've gotta have a really really noisy bike (think racebike) to get over 105db.
I bought some slip-in DB killers for the MOT at about £10 each off ebay, and tend to just leave them in all the time now anyway as my cans were loud! No noticable loss of power with them.
Where you off to?
Dave

Re: noise limits
thanks for the link, maplins here i come
me mate has a Tiger1050 but has just chopped his kmx200 in for an early kwaka 750
its completely mint, but he's bought it for track days
as we gots a trailer between us we thought about sorting out some track days for next year
we are both in the Reading area, i'd like to do cadwell, but something closer for the first time would be good
i've done Nurburgring on my TDM and Brands in my old car, but no trx track day yet and no decent bike circuits
any suggestions?

Re: noise limits
Boring and repetitive of me, I know, but Rockingham, which is one side of Corby. You pop round the M25 and go up via the A1 and A1(M), or the M1 if you're going early enough on a weekend. It's about 2 hours away, so if you trailer up the night before and leave at 5, you can be there in lots of time to do the briefing and get squared away. The National circuit is ideal for the TRX - only short straights. Only thing it doesn't really have is lots of "boring" medium speed square corners. They all have some sort of camber or elevation change, or they're compound corners to some degree. Lots of variety otherwise though.TonyDevil wrote:thanks for the link, maplins here i come

Of the other tracks I've done on the TRX other than the above, I liked Cadwell and Oulton best. They definitely have more of a sense of occasion than Rockingham. You do get passed on Oulton full circuit like nobody's business, but the corners are amazing (and a bit scary!). Cadwell is fun even if you never manage to get the drive onto Park Straight right. For extra amusement, take a lap timer - you can piss off your car owning mates by showing them how much faster the TRX is.

Re: noise limits
Donny GP, Brands and Silverstone are must dos at some stage in biking life.
I always recommend Mallory as a first time track. Easy to get to, easy to learn (but difficult to master) and usually cheap. Or Rockingham.
Cadwell scares the bejesus outta me and I would not recomend as a first time outing (it's also a bitch to get to!). I've not done Oulton Park but gets rave reviews - again not a first time track.
I want to do Anglesey.
Post up the dates. I'm strapped for dates/money before May as I've got to cover the cost of going to Monza for WSB but I'm in if it's after that

Re: noise limits
Would agree that Oulton full circuit could sucker you in to an off-track outing. Some of the combinations of corners are quite tricky and encourage you to pile on the speed, only to dump you into a very short braking area. I can see someone without a lot of track experience getting very enthusiastic going around slower bikes or polishing their knee sliders, and getting into trouble in any of 3 or 4 places.
I don't think Cadwell's too bad for a first outing. You just have to remember Keith Code's advice - relax, never charge your braking zone, and know your throttle off, braking, corner entry, apex and exit points BEFORE you get to them. The tricky bit at Cadwell is getting the latter right coming onto Park, and then figuring out where the feck to put yourself coming up to the gooseneck. Only really dangerous bit is if you ignore all of the aforementioned advice and try to be a hero into the gooseneck, at which point you might end up doing a peter pan impression!
It's a pretty drive to Louth from the motorway as well, or at least it used to be.
If you haven't done a lot of track days on bikes, would definitely recommend Keith Code's Twist of the Wrist books (at least no. 2). It's not like he's right about everything, and the guy is a certified freak, but there's a lot of very good advice that will help you do a quick, safe, track day without scaring yourself shitless.
