Brake Piston Spreader

Anyone on the list used one fo these Machine Mart jobbies?

I think Sealey also make them (and more expensively!!)

They look like they are for car brakes but I can't see why they won't work on my 'blue spot' calipers. Seems a good idea and better than a set of big grips to ease the pistons back in after cleansing! I have one piston thats sticking slightly (MOT advise) due to a lack of use over winter so want to pump it out, clean it and ease it in/out a few times to free it off properly.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I've always managed with a G clamp but it don't mean it's right.

You could make one with a bit of plate and threaded bar, or spend £22 at machine mart.

Phew glad it's not just me. I even manage the car pistons that require screwing back in with a combination of G clamp & long nosed mole grips set at required width to fit the cut outs.
Right then, who wants me to fit their brake pads ?

In my previous bike owning days and car cobbling life I've made do with tools that sort of do the job , but swore I'd buy the proper tool for the job this time round! I was exploring G-clamp options when I discovered the aforementioned piston spreader on the Machine Mart site...must admit I'm a sucker for a well designed bit of kit to grace my tool chest with...price permitting of course !

I'll take a wander over to my local Machine Mart tomoorow....and probably come away with a G-clamp for a 1/3 of the price !!
