Changed the master cylinder today!

And WOW! is all i can say!

I already had blue spots, but now i have a 99 R1 MC and lever on there, and well, its just fan-bloody-tastic, power to spare just like there was, but a really progressive lever with HUGE feel and transition from light braking to hardcore stoppie action is seamless, and not the wooden power without control that the 5/8ths stock MC gives.

I am VERY happy, and quite surprised how much difference it made!

Bleeding was a doddle - all you have to remember is to bleed the top banjo nut a couple of times first till fluid comes out there (which is a little messy job) and after that it should be plain sailing as the brake hoses remain filled all along! Took about 45 mins all in to do the swop!

Do it, and do it now is all i can say!

I did mine about a month ago and the difference is noticeable. I had (import) Brembos with a 5/8" Nissin master cylinder and I would've liked to have tried a 15mm Brembo m/c first to see if that made a difference before the full 'blue spot' swap.

I've got a brand new '03 R6 MC in the garage, just waiting to be put on. Gonna buy some Pazzo/CRG/Titax levers and some wavy discs, and do it all at the same time. Had '03 R6 BlueSpots for the last 4 years but still running thru the 5/8" TRX MC. Very wooden!

Just won an R6 cylinder this morning. No idea what year the bike was it came off tho' ? As long as it works eh ? Bought some blue spot callipers last month so will change the lot when the m/c arrives. Dot 5 fluid I presume ?

DOT 4 or 5.1. Not 5!!!

A liter of Halfords' finest 5.1 should do you. 4, if you want to go 2 years between brake fluid changes (5.1 is more hygroscopic).

If 5.1 is "more" hygroscopic then does that mean it's more likely to take on moisture fom the atmosphere than something that is "less" hygroscopic ? From your statement I take it dot 4 is better than 5.1 ?
