This is doin my head in now. Just spoke with a company called DK spares regards my replacement chain & sprocket kit. They can get 42T rear & supply with 17T front + 110 link, 520, O ring chain but I'm not convinced regards the chain. I have searched & searched here & the general opinion is that 525 is the norm but the chap at DK is telling me that 520 is the recommended chain for a TRX ???? If I insist on a 525 does this mean the sprockets they supply me with will be too thin ? Turns out they just buy in from B&C express anyhow so I will call them on Monday for a good chat but I value the opinions of you good people so would be interested to hear them.
Can't believe how many variables have popped up just because I need new C&S.

it should be 525,, and if you want the best chain there is, its DID ZVM which has the highest tensile strength of any chain ,, but its not cheap

Funny, I just asked last week about the difference in these numbers, at the bike shop.
Turns out that the number such as 530 says something about the distance between the pins of the chain. So also for the measurements of the tooths of the sprockets. Therefore you can't use a 525 sprocket with a 530 chain for instance (and so on).
Which is a shame, because the YZF I just broke down into pieces had an almost new chain+sprockets, but its 530. The TRXs standard is 525, as already mentioned above.

Standard fit on the TRX is 525.

If DK are telling you differnt they are plain wrong - or trying to shift old stock.

Try B&C Express - they are excellent (and actually know what the are talking about).

OK all you budding Jullius Sumner Miller's out there...
So how can you potentually gain a few h/power by utilising a 520 chain then. Is it because the actual length ( in MM's )would be shorter on a 520 pitch chain and sprockets and this somehow equates to power in motion???. OR ...Would you get h/p gain to the rear wheel by using 17/43 instead of 16/39 with an extra tooth or two to help pull things along???

the 520 is thinner so weighs a bit less so you might get the idea its easier to turn ,, but i doubt it ,, you will loose more power with a wrongly adjusted or insuffisant lubed chain than going down one size would help imho

Yeah, it's not so much a gain in bhp more a minimising of losses through the drivetrain. I guess if you can feel the difference you should be racing. Still, the extra 0.5bhp might tip the dyno over the magic 100bhp mark, eh?

A new chain is worth 2 - 3 bhp on a dyno - seen it myself

I am running a 520, and haven't had any issues in excessive wear. Saves a few grams undamped, and also rotational mass. It's cooler than 525

(But I could not tell if the difference is noticeable...)

And I've seen 1-2 HPs difference on a dyno, comparing a dry and a well lubed chain!
