Yes,be very careful bending the float `tangs`,a gentle nip in whichever direction is required with a pair of long nosed pliers is the way to do it.
Oh and watch for the tiny`o`ring coming off the slow running mixture adjusting screw and staying in the carb body,it could fall out when you`re handling the carb and might get lost.
I reset my stock carbs float heights and it`s amazing the difference you`ll feel when they`re right.

just started putting the carbs back together, tightening the bolt that holds the emulsion tube and main jets together and over did it. New bolt and emulsion tube needed

Arrgghhh! Don't you hate that shit. From memory the last bike I had the floats were set at 17mm. It pulled like a 14 year boy blah blah ...... Th e current bike I had the carbs apart and just did a general check that everything was sitting right. I didn't measure the float height on them but it seems to be pretty right at the moment. I would really like to find 520 quid and have a chat to Kayla though.

not so hideous as I first thought. got the damaged threaded part out with a stud extractor, came out very easily, no emulsion tube damage . Ordered TWO replacements (£4.75) from Yamaha just in case .

Just annoyed at how long it's taking time wise.

Always seems like forever when your bike is off the road. What have you ordered exactly at £4.75 each ? Yammy tubes were about 20 quid each last time I checked.

Got the tubes from NRP all fine, the brass bolt I snapped the head off is the one that holds the jet assembly to the carb body by bolting into the bottom end of the emulsion tube. Genuine Yamaha ones for £4.75.

Finally!
Put the carbs back on today, managed to mess up the throttle cable routing by putting them over instead of under the frame . Undid them at the throttle and fed them through the right way.

Gave all the connector blocks a good clean as well. Fired her up and she ran without the usual pops and misfires but...

... The bike seemed to heat up very quickly getting to 100c on the gauge before the fan kicked in and cooled her down. I haven't take it out for a run yet, the bike was on a paddock stand and it was a warm day but previously the bike has always run very cool barely showing on the temp gauge.

Have I done something wrong with the carbs or is a combination of a warm day, no airflow over the engine, cleaned-up connctors (more accurate temp reading) and a possible air-lock in the coolant system from taking the carbs off to blame?

Hmmmm,could be just the warm day and no airflow across the radiator.
Did you drain the coolant system or just use a couple of 5mm bolts to plug the carb heater hoses when you took the carbs off?
It`s very unlikely there`s an air lock,TRX`s don`t seem to be a model that suffers from such things.
Mine runs very cool on a 50% ethylene glycol(antifreeze)and deionised water mix(important not to use tap water because of the dissolved salts and added chemicals,they play havoc with aluminium and radiator cores)
Now I`ve got FCR`s on mine I`ve just used some silicon tubing to complete the `loop` in the coolant path that used to provide the deicing provision for the stock carbs.
I`ve no temperature guage as mine is streetfightered and I like the minimalist look.I do have an oil temperature guage that screws into the oil tank filler neck though(technically it`s only measuring the oil tank temperature because the sensor probe doesn`t reach the oil)but it looks nice.

used hose clamps to lock the coolant pipes off. Using a 50/50 mix ethylene glycol - de-ionised water after having previously rad flushed and drained the system. Hopefully take it out today for a proper run.

took the bike out sunday and went to work on it today. What a difference, nice and smooth on constant throttle openings, no pops or farts (from the bike at least) and much crisper throttle response. No heat problems either stayed at just above 60c unless stuck in traffic but soon cooled when moving again.
