gearing what is everyone running

i picked up a set off 16/17 front and 41 rear sprockets today. I went with the 17/41 ill keep the 16 for the track. I took it for a short run around the street. I have to say its way better then the stock gearing love it cant wait to get it in the hills next weekend. Then i can give it real good work out to see just how well it go's. Mine's going in tomorrow to have a 16 fitted to the front... as well as ditching the Shinko Ravens (with a 180 rear on standard wheel )for some new Pirelli Diablo Rosso's in the correct sizes and dropping the tripples to 30mm below the top of the forks. They're currently sitting flush with the forks (dunno what Max was thinking when he put this thing together) and she turns a bit slow...

Should be a bit of a transformation...

you will love the change mate. 30mm mine are 15mm and turns fine turns in way faster then my tl did and they where droped 25mm. Im going to lift the rear end on mine first then play with the front then. That 180 on a 5'' rim will make it turn slow. With a 160 on the 5'' rim it will tip over very fast and with the front end droped even faster. what are they stinging you for the pirelli's mate. ive got metzers m3. they are great warm up fast and stick nice to the road. i like them more then the pilot powers i used to run on my tl. the trx is a bit more user friendly then the tl was on tyres but i was eating up a back tyre on that thing every 3000klm

some mates and i are going to do the putty/old road lop next sunday not this one the one after if you are keen

Mate I'm not sure about cost for the Pirelli's... will find out tomorrow. That's if they were even able to get the 160 in for me as they didn't have one in stock. If it hasn't turned up I'll be putting the Z3's on like you have.

I'll keep that putty loop in mind. I'm in Perth all next week until late friday night, so I don't like my chances, but if I'm free I'll tag along. Thanks for the invite.

wombat they were on it when i got it brand new tyres. Ive allways liked michalins pp pr ps and never had any probs with them. I got that used to them i never went away from them till i got the trx. I dont think ill go back. I went for a real hard ride 2 weeks ago in the cold and they had real good grip. a few little slides under power out of a few real tight bends . But on a stone cold day i still had the knee down and they never gave me anything to be worried about with the feel of them. I like them

But lately I've been taking mine to Lloyd Penn at Artarmon (just around the corner from SBS TV)
He did my last service at 66,000kms. Very good and very knowledgeable. Will even look at things that are worrying you and not charge you for it (had a carby problem around Xmas time, and he took the time to take it for a few spins around the block and told me how to remedy it, for no charge)

He was recommended by a number of people on the Two Wheels magazine forum.

Next service is 72,000kms

Unfortunately I live a bit far from him. Mine's in at Sydney Motorcycle Wreckers, which is more a workshop these days than a wreckers. Will let you know what I think after I pick it up on Saturday.

Just bought a Michelin RP for the front to match same at rear, but have been crook so haven't been out to try it yet!
Also, while we're talking spanners, would like to know of a decent mech in Melb... anyone?

Dave, ask Richard. There's a guy Rich knows called Mark (Toukley?). He used to be a mechanic at Forcycles, Close Motorcycles, and Sydney City Motorcycles - Lane Cove. I think he now lives in Melbourne and he's a GOOD mechanic. Mark and Richard used to share a warehouse/workshop in Newtown many moons ago. He resurrected my Guzzi when it was very sick.

Went from 16/40 to 17/40 today and now it´s so much smoother, with the other gearing i had to shift like a MF...
Before: 120 @ 5000rpm 5th
Now: 120 @ 5000rpm 4th gear and 140 in 5th
