bar risers

Hi,

Was chatting to someone yesterday in Abergavenny, He had a TRX now sold. And he did mention that he had some risers fitted under the clip ons to raise the ride position. When i got home i loosened the pinch bolts and the allen screw in to the yokes and lifted my clipons to the same level as the amount of fork sticking above yoke. much improved riding position. did have a quick run around the block and decided that this needs to be done..

Anyone know if there is some sort of riser available that fits under the clipon.. that retains the two allen bolts that go through the yoke as well... obviously will have to put longer bolts in there.

other option, was to get another set of clipons and fit them underneath and take the bars out of them...

Any ideas ?

I did a similar thing with mine a while back and I agree, the ride position is much better.
I just put a spacer on the bolt that goes through the yoke i.e. between the yoke and the underside of the clip-on.
The spacer was a spare bit of ally tube I had kicking around. Maybe could use a pile of washers.
With the clip-on bolts tightened up, all is firm.

yeah cheers for that may give it a try. would liked to have put something more permanent there though... may see if i can get another clip on or get a 41mm spacer unerneath as well as the bolt through the yoke....

Whilst trying to solve my sat nav mounting problem I sort of killed 2 birds with 1 stone by raising the clip-ons to create a gap between them & the top yoke using a bit of ally plate I had.

I have moved them further up since the 1st picture & used the 2 ally spacers which used to hold the sat nav away from the plate to make up the gap then just scrounged some longer bolts to pass through the clip on & ally plate. The spacers came with some exhaust can straps I bought.

I can't imagine how painful my trip to Germany would have been if I hadn't done this.

nice mod, problem is i got my sat nav munted just in front of the yoke nut so i cant do that. bid on a set of clipons on ebay so will modify them when i get them. will post some pics when i get them

your fork look a long way through the yokes, how much do you have sticking through ?

Loads but they're FZR600 forks & a fair bit longer than TRX ones.

Been running my TRX for a couple of years with the bars raised to the top of the fork legs. No spacers fitted & never had any problems.

cheers for that, i got a set of clipons coming now, so may as well stick them underneath.....

Thinking about it most clipons that fit under the bar only rely on the pinch bolts so proably ok to do it anyway...

True, I've got a set of Harris alloy clip-ons for the TRX (which I don't use) and they only have the single pinch-bolt, no other bolts to connect to yoke. Used them in the past and they are fine.

Only downside, as I found out, is that if you have an 'off' the bar will probably rotate on the fork and smash into the tank and dent it, instead of just bending the clip-on as it would if it was also bolted to the yoke.

The opposite is what happens - on my "travel in the gravel" at Oschersleben three years ago the RH clip-on dented my tank because it couldn't turn (out of the way to the tank) due to the bolts.

I'm now doing without the bolts because the clamping of the clip-ons are sufficient to hold them under all conditions of riding.
