Who does replacement shiny downpipes?

Post by JC » Wed Nov 18, 2009 10:27 pm

Anyone know where I can get or who can supply direct replacement downpipes..?

They need to fit std silencers, and need to be chrome/stainless...

I know TDM ones wont work, but cant find any others.

Cheers...

To be honest I don`t think there is anyone doing original specification down pipe sets.
You do know that your originals are stainless steel?
Removing and polishing will be far cheaper than replacement, you`ll find their removal might be tricky, the alloy flanges tend to corrode to the studs and often some serious `persuasion` is required.

JC it's not hard to polish your own if you have access to a bench grinder . The hardest part is removing the down pipes from the bike .I have a before and after shots , it took 2 minutes to go from dull to polished and another 2 minutes to get a beer . I can send pics of the required gear to do the job . IT IS SO SIMPLE

Get a ball of medium wire wool from B&Q or any DIY store and a tube of Autosol and get busy polishing! Apply Autosol to wool and then buff with a clean cloth. I did my Hornet 600 pipes in this way and they came up like the ones pictured in this thread. It is a a bit laborious but works...and the TRX only has 2 pipes!!Word of warning if you're doing this on a driveway - wear protective goggles as I ended up with some wire wool dust in my eye which was annoying for a few days!

Doesn't someone like Delvik or Motad do OE headers for the TRX? I'm sure I've seen someone selling them? Anyone?

I polished mine a couple of months ago using a cloth buff in the electric drill - finished them off with Autosol on a rag. They came up good but you'll need to give them a quick going over fairly regularly with the Autosol to keep them looking good. A bit awkward to do but worth the effort.

Hi cobba, you obviously meant to say bourbon instead of beer - apology accepted!

you will be completely wasting your money if you buy big bore headers and use standard cans
