Std Carb Mods
Well I'm now the proud owner of Kev's track bike and one of the options I'm looking at(instead of pulling my FCR's and L/B exhaust system off my bike) is getting another set of large bore headers and either the staintunes I have floating around or aftermarket mufflers... I noticed some of you's guys are getting 84hp with std carb's with airbox removed. (even tho this goes against their principal design for still air)
I was wondering if anyone had utilised the curved bellmouths from the airbox and made their own foam sock to fit over them.. Any feedback on this would be appreciated I noticed with the jetting on the fcr's when going from std system to large bore and ditching the airbox...the main jets stayed the same...just one up one the needle and change on main air jet.. Was it similar as such with the CV mod using a pod filter?????

Re: Std Carb Mods
not many ppl do that to stock carbs. If you wanna use pod filters, go for FCRs. Yes it costs money, BUT its probably the best "bang for buck" around.
You could try a dynojet kit to get them running sweet. Best i can offer.
I dont have a spare set to play with currently, BUT i was able to get the TDM900 throttles out to 41.2mm. I could probably go out to 42mm, but would need to adjust a few things. If i was able to strip out a stock carb, it might be possible to open it up some what and make a new flatslide for it. Because ive gone EFI i never investigated taht path.

Re: Std Carb Mods
FFS - don't believe any dyno reports about power. There are far too many variables so as to make them meaningless. The only dyno readinsg of any use are before and after on the same dyno.
Speaking from experience (and spending lots of money trying to get it right), the standard airbox is very restrictive but you can improve that. I personally wouldn't run with pod filters on CV carbs but ......
Best way of improving them is to make sure they are set up absolutely right - I had 95bhp (on the same dyno I started at 74 many moons ago!) out of mine with standard carbs, big bore kit, gas flowing, cams etc
But, for what you will spend setting them up correctly, you are better just slapping your FCRs on (it's only a 15 min job)
