Kenny if the fuel was getting sucked into the motor you would be fouling your spark plugs. I was fouling the RH plug and changed the fuel pump and the problem went away so Im inclined to agree with the leaking float theory. Try and rig up a small catch tank from the fuel overflow pipe , take it for a spin and see if you get any fuel in it.

With almost twice the fuel going in, you should have around 170 hp 8)

Well may have solved the problem here. I had the compression checked and it was 100psi on the left :( and 170psi on the right :) . So we dug deeper and found the inlet valves never closed on the left  and the right had less than zero clearance. Now reset Ive got 205km on this tank and still not hit reserve much happier now :D

Thanks for all your replies guyz

Well now another problem :? I ran the tank dry (236km) with the fuel tap set to "on" (tap pointing down) NOT "reserve" how the hell can this happen. I can tell you its a heavy bike to push 1.6km all up hill to home
Pulled the the tnk and removed the tap but cant find anything wrong. All the relevant parts are there filter and 2 brass tubes.

Was there any fuel left in the tank when the lines ran dry?

Well the ON position certainly doesn`t allow any leway then, odd because normally you`ll get a cough or two as a warning to switch to reserve!
I`ve done it pal, pushed my Le Mans Mk1 THREE ferkin miles with a flat rear tyre to get her home.
Wouldn`t have trusted leaving her anywhere, much too precious.
I needed a day off work though, my thighs were so pumped up I could hardly walk.

I've never hit reserve so I don't know. Got to 300km once though before I decided enough was enough. Usually start looking for a servo around 250.
