has used normal tapwater in the system before, I only ever use deionised water (get it from the supermarket in 2ltr bottles as many steam irons need it too) and ethylene glycol antifreeze in a 50/50 mix in all my bikes.You CAN get coolant systems running too hot with solutions `overdosed` with ethylene glycol,50/50 is about the max to be honest in the UK.
As has already been said, you can run the bike with the radiator cap off (lower the coolant level a little in the rad and pinch the header bottle to rad hose with mole grips to stop any coolant flow), then start the bike up and wait to see the coolant flowing around the rad.
You may also have a malfunctioning thermostat too, try taking it out of the housing all together and see what temperature she runs at then.
Once the water pump is taken off the bike it should revolve but not spin freely, the pump impellor takes a little effort to turn and that`s just as it should be.
As for those premix coolants and other shite like Smartwater, marketing scams preying on Mr/Mrs average biker wanting the best for his/her baby!
