Looks sweet, but, is the engine also ready or does it need some new paint and maintenance?

The engine's staying as it is- it needs paint but it runs fine so it can wait until next time I take it apart

No, no!!!! Do it now while the rest of the bike is going back together looking like new - it'll have a better impact if the whole bike looks good - the untidy (no offence intended ) engine will detract from the newly coated frame etc & the by the time you get around to tidying up the engine, the frame will be a bit weathered & you'll get the same problem. ie: new looking engine - old looking frame!!
If you do it all now, you can change your sig to: "My bike f...ing rocks & looks f...ing mint!"

You're right, and it's just a bit of masking up isn't, really? I am a Bad Person and should be consigned to chuffing round on a CX500 for all eternity

No wrong - it's a CX 500 EURO (Sports)!
And there's nothing wrong with it - besides the (heavy) weight and the (weak) brakes ...

But I keep it 'til I'm not able (aged 150 or so) to ride the TRiXie anymore and then it'll be great fun again to ride it

More rebuildification occurred today-

I gave the engine a waft over with some PJ1 satin black



These are really good for helping paint to dry between coats- cheap hairdryers FTW!

and a look at the nice job AAS did on the standard exhaust, turning it into a 2-1 with a single 50mm exit instead of two 38mm ones, saving a few kg by only needing one link pipe and can

Yes they`ve made a tidy job of that Kayla.
By the way I`ve also got one of those R6 shocks on my TRX (red spring too), I don`t have the `extra` alloy link you have on the bottom mount of yours though, mine fits straight onto the alloy knuckle casting.
I find it sprung a tad too heavy for my weight but there`s plenty of adjustment to play with for sure.I will be replacing mine with the Ohlins shock I got rebuilt with fresh seals and re-gassed earlier this year.
Then I`ll hang onto it for a spare very likely.

By the way I`ve also got one of those R6 shocks on my TRX (red spring too), I don`t have the `extra` alloy link you have on the bottom mount of yours though, mine fits straight onto the alloy knuckle casting.

It does fit straight on to the casting but the R6 shock's 50mm shorter than the TRX one which is why there's an extension on it- how did you get around that?

I didn`t get around it at all, it was how the shock was fitted when I bought the bike last year and until two weeks ago when I removed it.
I found one of the needle roller bearings had suffered from water/salt ingress and had rusted/deteriorated badly so it`s currently stripped.
I don`t have the luxury of a shed like yourself, my bike fettling is carried out on some block paving where I live and the Edinburgh weather plus shift work often transpires to stop me from doing much very quickly at times.
Luckily I always have a second bike on the road.
I`m wondering then, having not known the shock was 50mm/2" approx shorter than stock, if THAT was the reason why the action of the rear suspension seemed so hard?

No probs! It's my business to know these things If the shock in your bike is a 2007/2008 R6 one, then they're around 290mm long and the TRX shock is 340mm long. Maybe the person you bought your bike off just fitted some (20mm? ) shorter dogbones? Have a measure- the standard ones are 182mm long.

Kayla is the yzf1000 swingarm the same length as the trx is looks realy short in those pics

Your rear set plate's did you get any peg flex from single plate i did from mine so i went with plates on both side's

what colour are you going to do the fairings in
