Poor Baby Running like a bag of ****
Well i took me bike out the other day is ive been naughty and using the r1 a lot lately, it ran ok then i went onto reserve popped n farted a bit then it was ok fille dit back up with fuel and all was well few days later after the monsoon had passed took it out and it was running really bad like it was running out of fuel or a partial blockage or some such thing so came back and checked battery termianls were ok and fuel was in tank........
Fuel was in tank and terminals were not mega tight but should have been okay so made them tight and went off to try again, still wasnt right so back i came and into the workshop i went tank off and hooked it up to the workshop tank it once i had drained the carbs ran fine on fresh fuel so i pondred this for a while then it came to me waled over picked up the petrol tank and turnt it upside down and fuel came out all around the filler cap so if fuel comes out water must have gone in eh?
anyone know of another option than the unerversal yamaha ones you can get nowt wrong with the cap other than the seal but im told you cant get just the seal ?

Does it have to be Viton ?
Won't any other material do ??
... or if it's to stop water getting in, rather than petrol getting out ... is there a silicone mastic or other proprietary (long word) sealant in a tube that will effect a seal ???

Rubber side down, Red side up is my preferred riding style.

Id imagine you'd need something that was resistant to fuel vapours too, as well as watertight.Red Rex wrote:Does it have to be Viton ?

I just had to replace mine.Apart from the 7 or so retaining bolts around the outside their is one inside the lock once the catch is open. Hope this helps
I know we have pretty strict safety requirements here down under in OZ when dealing with fuel so best to arm yourself with a few beers and take your time as you don't want to be overwelmed by the fumes
SAFETY FIRST

Re: Poor Baby Running like a bag of ****
so should i expect to be able to turn tank upside down and it not leak out the cap ? or am i expecting it to seal to well ? got a new cap now but tbh the old seal looks damm near the same as the new one so not sure to fit it or not really
