TRX model history

Can anyone tell me the VIN numbers for the different production years of the TXR? Well just the first 11 digits should do the trick

So far I got:
1995
1996 JYA4XGT04TA _ _ _ _ _ _
1997 JYA4XGT08VA _ _ _ _ _ _ /JYA4XGT09VA _ _ _ _ _ _
1998
1999

The reason why Im asking is because Im looking for a bike procuced in year 1998, as Yamaha should have fixed some intake valve issues this year... correct me if Im wrong.

Hi tozzer!

At first: Welcome to the forum - have fun here and in the real world!

The only thing I know about the usage of the "soft" intake valves is that they've been used in several (not all) engines up to VIN JYA4UN00000013284.

As to the other models (4X) I don't know ...

But don't worry about those "soft" intake valves - mine is a '96 model and far before this VIN and has ca. 83.000 km on the clock without any problems (touch wood ...).

The only thing is to control / adjust the valve clearances every 24.000 km (and not only every 42.000 km as the manual says!) then all should be good.

That was indeed good news, and control / adjust of the valve clearances every 24.000 km is absolute not a problem. I come from a old Ducati 900SS

That`s every 14,900 miles or so.
Hmmm, I would rather fit the later valves and be done with it, if you add up cam cover gaskets and shims etc (if they`re required) every 14,900 miles you would be better off fitting the later valves.

Nearly 30,000 kms on a 1995 and no problems!

As I am about to buy an TRX maybe it is rather smart to buy a model with the later valves.... and then back to my original question. Can anyone tell me the VIN numbers where Im sure it has the later valves?

My local Yamaha dealer was... lets say less informative
