Rear Caliper Seized

Hi all, my rear caliper is seized on my trx. Well one piston is. How do i get it out/ do i soak it in something? do i heat it up or is it pants.
I guess a new one is £100 plus!
Your help would be most appreciated

You can try taking the caliper from it`s mounting bracket, leaving it dangling from the hose and letting it soak overnight in diesel.
Then try holding the piston that does move in with mole/vice grips or similar and pump the brake pedal while watching for signs of movement.You should be able to free it up that way and could pump it out altogether if you are considering replacing the piston and seal.

Hi Mincehead, got the tight one freed off, managed to get it out, now i can't get the other one out as i can't get hold of it arrrrggghhhh

Try a high pressure airline through the tapped hole where the brake line connects up to the caliper with a nice tight ball of rag pushed into the other piston bore.
Or you could try a piece of old rubber inner tube over a flat piece of wood held against the caliper/piston bore face, again use vice/mole grips to hold it in place, then connect up the brake line again and use fluid pressure to pump out the other piston.

Might sound like stating the obvious but if you use the high pressure air line method, make sure to keep your fingers well clear of the path of the exiting piston. Have known the odd guy over the years that wish they had.
