Suggestions

Post by SDN » Mon Aug 23, 2010 7:33 pm

Was out riding Sunday and the chain seperated at the soft link. It wrapped itself round the sprocket, luckily it seems to have done very little damage apart from the hugger. Trouble is it now refuses to start I cant see any damage to the starter cables and the neutral light is working, I can't see any obvious damage to the sidestand switch - though it would be first suspect.

Can any one tell me where the sidestand switch connects into the loom, so I can do continuity test?

Can I have a neutral light yet still have a break from the neutral switch supply to the starter circuit cut off relay?

Would I have to have two faults as if the system thinks I am in gear operating the clutch should solve it

and if the side stand switch is indicating it is up the bike should start unless it is in gear???

Any suggestions??? i always find bike electrics a bit baffling

Not sure my reply will enlighten you. My neutral light is always on, as long as the engine is running. Other than that, it works as it should, i.e. can't start the bike with gear engaged and sidestand out. go figure. Like you said, bike electrics...

But there are wires in the proximity of the chain/sprocket. IIRC, there's a wireclip attached to one of the bolts holding the black sprocket cover. I can imagine the chain has damaged those wires.

Quite some time ago, a now departed contributor(departed as in gone somewhere else ,not the other departed.) Had a similar problem inso much as the bike would not start. :(
He was fiddling around with it whilst waiting for the breakdown man and discovered a set of fuses behind the left side panel below the seat. and a fuse there had popped. Maybe you could look there.

Hello,

Years ago I had a chain break and the bike wouldn't start - if would fire now and again.

Turned out to be the that the flywheel woodruff key had sheared.

Don't know if this is the case here but it's a thought
