More screen questions: DB or Flip up?

Post by M.V. » Wed Aug 18, 2010 1:55 am

To me, the Flip up (upturned lip at the top) screens look a lot better than the DB screens, but it's really hard to find good pics of these things...

Anyway, how much more wind does the DB deflect compared to the flip up?

Average height, 5'8" or something (167cms)...

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Guess it's all down to personal choice ...
I've run mine with standard , double-bubble , and flip-up screens over the years.
Standard was / is OK.
Double-bubble looks better (in my opinion)
Flip-up was fitted to try and shift the wind blast off the chest area , which it did. ... straight up to around my head.
I took it off after a couple of weeks 'cos "A", it didn't work, and "B", it looked bloody ugly.
You'd be welcome to have mine except all my screens have been trimmed to suit a 'shorter than standard' fairing
Rubber side down, Red side up is my preferred riding style.

Thanks for the input, I'd like to avoid buffeting my head if possible! DB sounds like the way to go.

I found a nice DB from a place called, (oddly enough) Screens For Bikes... Go figure.

Best photos, & the best price to boot!

Best I order one...

Likewise, DB is better for me. Keeps the wind noise down.
A chappy over in the North Western suburbs made mine for me, did a good job. There's also a guy on eBay that now has them in stock. I'll dig out the details of both if you're interested M.V.

Edit: Here we go:

Peter at Screens For Bikes
Ph: 03 9469 3192
152 Leamington Street Reservoir 3073

Jon (flight20012008) rang me the other day to say that he'd got TRX db screens in, but I'd already bought mine from Screens for Bikes.
Have a look at his store anyways:
http://stores.ebay.com.au/flight20012008
Spoken to him a couple of times, but haven't done any business with him. Takes the trouble to call me, so can't be that bad...
Ride Well!
Cheers, Dave.

Cheers for the link, I've actually been in contact with them both already!

Screens for bikes got my business, mainly because they had the best photos, but they were cheaper too!

I don't know how people expect to sell custom bits without good photos...

Any way, my dark tint DB screen is here & ready to fit, hopefully it doesn't rain tomorrow!

Ah good call MV, did you have a look at Peter's Stag while you were there? Nice - my kind of wheels. Just watch the silly little plastic screws that hold the screen on. I wasn't being clumsy or nuffin', but one just sheared off at the head. A bit old and brittle. Replaced it with a normal M5 (if memory serves) screw. Took about 10 minutes to swap the screens all up. Easy.
Ride Well!
Cheers, Dave.

Nah I got him to post it out.

I got some aluminum bolts & well nuts, much better than the plastic things. Fitted it today, very easy. Just need to fit my braided lines & overhaul the calipers when the parts arrive & I'll be right for at least a week

$120, cheapest I could find & very good quality to boot. It's not advertised, but I just emailed & asked.
