I'm starting to collect parts for this winters overhaul in readiness for the 2011 biking season. Jobs being done will be:

1. New tyres. Gonna try some Maxxis Supermaxx Sports as we'll be doing a few track days next year so I don't need the longevity of the Avon Storms I've worn out in the Pyrenees, Spain and Andorra this year; 2010 was a touring year! £160 fitted at my local Protyre will do nicely I think!

2. R6 rear shock. Got all the bits, just need to spanner them on and tweak the shock to suit my riding style.

3. Front forks. Fit Ohlins springs I already have. Fresh oil, experiment with air gaps/weights etc.

4. Valve clearances. Bikes done 19K now so they need checking.

5. Chain. I've noticed a tight spot(s) and the adjusters are near the end of their notches. So my question (my bikes in a mates garage as we're having building work done currently) is how long is a stock TRX chain? I plan to buy a chain, a Renthal rear sprocket and retain my fairly new Afam 16T front sprocket. I've had a look around on the net and can buy a decent, brand named chain for £60+ but need to know how many links hence my question!

525 pitch and 110 links is right with standard sprockets. I usually go for Afam.

You could take the opportunity to go for a 520 conversion, if you need chain and sprocket too.

Less drag/resistance but wears out quicker? I use my bike all year round so probably best to stick to 525 as harder wearing?

I reckon you`ll hardly notice the difference in wear rates Corners, Kayla can tell you how much lighter and cheaper the chain and sprockets are.
A TRX doesn`t make enough power to `overly` trouble a 520 chain in all honesty.
I`ve got 525 on mine and won`t change it til it`s worn out but the 520 conversion is on my mind for the future.

Yep 520 pitch all round, keeps any offsets in sprockets relative too.Kayla has already done it, I`m sure she`ll notice this thread and post a reply telling you who she used to source the parts.
And yes, it is cheaper.

Yep, just get 520 items: chain and sprockets.

You said you dont need a new front one, but TBH they are only about £5

520 chain is cheaper.

I got Renthal 520 front and rear sprockets from B&C Express (they don't list them, but they do sell them. You need to ring them up) I got a Renthal 520 non o-ring chain from ebay (cheaper than B&C). I think it came to around £80, all in, if I remember right. I haven't had any problems and I'm using a split/spring link.

The alloy 42t rear is a good chunk lighter than the standard steel 39t one I took off, and I'd imagine the chain is a shade lighter too.

When I went to B&C the other day (I'm quite local) I asked about fitting the 520 chain. The young lad who served my just looked in the book and said its a 525. I did say that I thought they would be able to do some sort of conversion but he wasn't having it. I bought a 525 in the end. I was trying to sort out if there was an easier way of doing it that doesn't tie us to B&C and the possibilities of being served by laddo again but I got as far as finding an R6 front sprocket that may fit and gave up.
