made earth wires from the coils made no diffrence next im gonna try messing with the fuel pump see if that shows any sign of problems as ive seen a few posts on the web of people will fuel pumps not working right causeing similar problems

how do i test the thing though?

Pull the fuel feed pipe off the pump (the one between the pump and the carbs, not the one between the pump and the inlet stub) with the motor running and see if fuel`s flowing.
It`s not very likely to be the fuel pump in all honesty, if the pump isn`t working the float bowls of the carbs would run dry and the motor will stop.

check resistance on the pick up coil could be suspect. PS gravity feed fuel straight to carbs eg tank off small funnel jammed into end of fuel line held above carbs try and start motor this would eliminate fuel pump tap etc.

yep will give the pick up to the coils a test sounds like a good idea, the bike starts and runs fine but as you start to use it under load is when you start to see it start to run bad then it runs so bad that you cant ride it as it keeps trying to die just like your running out of fuel

Hiya ..........TDMs get this symptom all the time

Im not an expert on TRX so could be wrong

On a TDM it is always .......always ..... the starter solenoid corroded ...... there is a copper strip in them that conducts the ignition circuit ......... when you replace the starter solenoid on a TDM the problem goes away

Pull the top off and have a look its obvious when it rubber ducked

Oh and the earths to the frame from the coils fail regularly too on TDMs

Only a suggestion ......hope it helps

This problem`s surely got to be electrical, much more likely to be a resistance issue attributed to temperature of components as current is drawn or as the motor heats up.
Ignition pick-up problem sounds promising.

Hi,
I realise you have changed the fuel filler cap, but it still sounds like the breather isn't letting air into the tank, causing a vacuum, therefor fuel starvation after about 10 ks of hard running. I base this on a friend with a Duc 900ss, his tank breather was the wrong way round, therefor letting fuel and air out and nothing in. Try opening the fuel cap when it plays up next time and listen for air rushing in. Worth a shot and its free of cost.

On mine it's just got to be electrical (see prev post) and I'm pretty sure all the mechanical / fuel issues were worked through.

tested pickup feed and its as its meant to be but if its failing under load then i wont know till i replace it so thinking reg rec next as its easy to change and then pick up if that dont work

for some reason i hadn't seen this .....

anyway its late its dark and cold but i had to go look and guess what i found? the whole bottom of the tray it sits in is full of water

now you may or may not recall my hepco and becker saga but basically i had to weld the rear of the frame to make some mounts to fit the rack which i was very proud of as it worked a treat

however, the holes i made for the mounts it would now appear are letting water into the unit not a lot but the pan is sealed with nowhere to drain and the lowest point is where the relay is sat

so tommorow ill see it if its fooked or not and seal the holes with some sort of sealent and hope that it sorts the problem out

what ya think is this likly to solve the thing ?

My added earth strap - battery to chassis - seems to have cured my bike of its hissy fits. At least so far...

Well it stops trying to die now however it isnt runnning right it is gutless and will only do 70

ive taken apart the starter relay dried it cleaned it etc changed fuses but still not right so ive ordered a new one in the hope it will solve it....

its deffinately improved since the starter relay was found in a puddle of water so thats a good starting point but if after fitting a new one its not that then what could it be next ?

I would'nt assume the coils you got off ebay are ok. You should try to swap the coils for a pair you KNOW to be working, they may seem to spark ok but that does'nt mean there good. I'm in hemel hp2 & you can try mine if you can't find anyone closer to you.
There IS nothing wrong with my bike now that the fuel pump and vacuum lines have been replaced/re-routed (different symptoms to yours).. Glad to hear you've sorted yours davamb!

ok so the saga continues

the bike seemend yesterday to sound different (better nore meaty) this was just after fitting new starter solinoid.........

today i thought as i had the time id go out and see how it was, it was piddleing down and soon as i started it i thought it sounded back like it was before the solinoid change. so i thought take it down the road and see...........

it was the same

now i thiught the rain was the only varible to change and with this happening, in the first place in a rain related instance there has too be a link........

so started bike removed seat and played with wires under seat, no diffrence. Then onto the front of the bike near coils, right side nadda left side Ouch, electric shock.....

next step tank etc off again and time to trace wires look for the short think there is somthing that when its wet gets worse maybe? fairly certain i shouldnt be getting electric shocks when checking wireing near left side spark plug and coil anyway?

Thoughts......................?
