Left the carbs overnight in Basics ketchup. Anyway, I hope this ketchup thing isnt one of those newby jokes... I've got friends in low places

so that you know.
Now..... with these 2 pictures of the carbs can we see in these photos where the emulsion tubes are? It is a dumb question I know, but I truly do not know and as I need to change mine.............
Thanks, and no curry type answers please.

Breaking news!!!
The ketchup didnt do much, despite me adding extra vinegar to the substance.
It's now oficially a running engine with a added bonus! clunk clunk clunk
Now comes the question from me to me. Do I go in or does it go out?
More to come

It might "look" ok inside scar but its a fair bet the emulsion tubes are worn - wear starts as early as 10,000 miles!
The emulsion tubes are where the needles move. I know they're a bit out of focus but you can see an ovallity at the top of the left tube
Here's some comparisons I made of worn and unworn jets and needles
and a comparison between Yamaha on the left and Factory Pro on the right

and a well worn needle - probably caused by running at low rpm for most of its life

Ok, guys!
The engine starts, runs, everything seems ok in the top end, although I havent tested compression yet, It all seems normal appart from the CLAK CLAK CLAK on the left side of the engine.
I've got 3 options:
1-rebuild the engine and get a s#$t looking bike for £750 when i can get a good one for £1000
2-sell it as it is (how much would it be worth?)
3-go crazy and rebuild a proper racer (sorry, cant afford this option)
4-have a look inside the engine at try to source the noise
Time for opinions, kind people!

Does the noise increase as the revs rise?
And smoke from the left exhaust?
Left side of the motor, likely not the cam chain which runs up the right side (if you`re sat on the bike).

The noise is very loud and its from the left hand side when sitting on the bike. Seems to me 2 "claks" per revolution.
At the moment its smoking from both cilinders due to the oil I threw in the plug holes before starting it. Again, exhaust pressure seems even and right, coming out from both slip-ons.
PS- and yes, higher revs, higher cpm (claks per minute)

Hmmmm, sounds like it could be a camshaft journal or maybe she`s been seized and it`s piston slap.
It`s easy to take off the cam cover to take a look at the camshafts, disconnect the radiator hoses and swing it out the way towards the headstock.

You've gotta get into the motor, cos you'll never sell it with a clackety clack clack going on, and getting the motor apart costs nothing but time.
Then decide what to do.
BTW, rubbing vaseline on the outside of the left casing cures a clacky motor....

Thank you kindly for your input! I'll be doing that sometime this week, after work. More pictures to come soon!

...and £100 worth of gaskets
Whilst I still have the whole workshop throwing ketchup jokes , if I was to kick in with the vaseline experiment... that would put an end to my hetero career.

I'm guessing either the crank, the conrod or both are already gone. Only one way to find out!
In the name of science...

I'm taking donations...

That's what I was thinking, the dreaded left side big end.
Still, I managed to ride mine about 50kms like that, so you'll get a bit of use out of it!

In this photo, they are under the brass bolt you can see in the middle of the carbs, the floats make a sideways "L" shape, it's above & to the left.
You undo the brass bolt (8mm I think from memory) & lift the emulsion tubes out from the top.
