Well we are ALL allowed to have opinions and beliefs Phuk, Lenny as an individual is entitled to have his as we are ours.
I`m just not going to let the fear of thinking my brake lines may let me down one day stop me from making my own, I always have and always will.
Unless that is the `nanny` legislators take those choices away from me one day.
Motorcycles are dangerous, of that there is no doubt but if I had any kind of fear associated with owning, working on and riding them I possibly wouldn`t want anything to do with them.
I make my choices regarding my life, not some government agency of media scaremongerer and I champion personal choice and individualism so I`ll happily continue to `live my life, the way I want to`!

Well, received my 2002 R6 brakes, braided lines and m/cylinder from ebaymotors! Cheap as chips as they say! Fitted them up last night and she's all good. I'm gonna flush them again though 'cause the fluid I used was old, just wanted to make sure they worked. I'm chuffed and can't wait to ride the hills.

When you've bled them, pull the lever back to the bar and secure it with something there, and leave it over night. Gets the last few little bubbles out.

You might be a competent engineer Mince - the problem I have is wannabee engineers messing about with brakes and ploughing into me or my bike when they go for a leverfull of brake and nothings there....................................and I'm speaking from experience - as a newbie race mechanic when I miscalced when fitting a different caliper to my racebike - a worn pad popped out somewhere between Railway Bend and the Esses at East Fortune and I'd no front brake - never shat myself as much in my life and I should've known better..........

just quickly on the brake pressure, 30psi ? that sound ridiculously low. I would have guessed more like 120psi honestly. You can calculate it easy enough. If you could be bothered.

ALL the monobloc, (one piece) Yamaha calipers, blue, silver and gold `spots` will fit, obviously not the later radial versions though

So what year did the R6 go to the radial version? I'm guessing a fair while back cos I can see lots on http://motorcycleparts2u.com but I bet I can't use any of them as they all list radial master cylinders. Is there another site similar for older stuff?

There's heaps of blue spots on eBay US, all about $100 shipped.

(Edit: Radial MC wouldn't be a problem (I think), but radially MOUNTED won't work. The pics will show which is which.)

I'm holding out for some gold spots, but I might be waiting a while...

Yeah I see the difference now. Bleeding obvious when you look at the two side by side. Bummer as they had some really nice silverspots that would look really schmick on my bike.

Of course, you could always swap the front end out for something modern that has radially mounted calipers...

Yes a full `later` spec front end would be the way to go if you want full radial brakes.It wouldn`t come cheap though, expect around 500 quid for a set of forks, another 50 to 100 for the front wheel, the same again for the calipers and if you`re lucky you might get the yokes thrown in.
Then there`s the TRX stem swap, some simple engineering, maybe spacers etc too.
I don`t think you would have any change out of 850 quid!
I`ve got a pair of R6 goldspots, the gold caliper piston plugs on one of them has a scratch through it if I remember correctly, some gentle `dressing` and a touch-up with some enamel of the right match would sort it though. I`ve got a set of very good nick bluespots too, I could be tempted to sell either of the pairs.

Just to confirm as long as the blue spot monobloc calipers are axial mounted and not radial then it doesn't matter what model they come off? So older R1, R6, newer R6S, FZ1, FJR1300 etc are all the same in terms of direct bolt on and braking performance - give or take any age/condition deterioration?

Also I can mix and match these bluepots with an R1 radial master cylinder of any age assuming that I have cables to suit?

I have my eye on ebay at 07 R1 master cylinder and some 07 R6S calipers (not radial) hence all the questions.

Got my R1 07 MC a few weeks back so fitted to the bike as a test. It was still fairly soft feeling using the very old original brake lines and calipers. Now picked up a pair of axial mount 08 FZ1 silver spots which have the brake hose attachment on the side. My original hoses fit the MC ok and look like they will fit the new calipers with a slight twist but I haven't tried. I want to order a set of braided twin hoses. Has anyone used TRX specific braided hoses in the past to connect to side mount 'bluespots'? I could get off my arse and actually try to fit the new calipers but just wanted to see if anyone has done this already.
