Hi All, Reward for missed TRX info

Post by Pieman » Sat Mar 19, 2011 2:07 am

Hello everyone.

In 2002 i bought possibly one of the last new TRX's in the UK from wheels International.

I put a private plate on it : S50 TRX, it was a red and black version, the same as the one set as TRX of the month at the moment.

I see a few names from the old TRX forum that i knew back then, Honk (Phuk i'm, sure)and co. I remember Martin Franklin used to be a major poster/modifier.

Well after 3 years i thought i needed more speed and traded it towards a cbr600rr which was great fun for a year or 2. But then i needed that twin feeling again that i missed so much and looked briefly around for my TRX to no avail. So ended up buying an Aprilia Tuono gen2. Cracking bike but i don't sit in the shed with a cup of tea looking at it like i did with the rex. The TRX had character, a personality. So this is why i am here.... i want it back, there has truly been a void since i sold it and wondered if anyone knew it's whereabouts. I live in Kent, the bike was sold to P+H in Crawley and sold onto a dealer in Blindley Heath.

Any ideas if it's still around? Was pretty standard apart from a few subtle mods:

Blue spot R1 calipers, Smoked Braided hoses and a one-off back light that i made myself and looked like 2 small square lights . It had Ohlins fork springs but whoever bought it wouldn't have known that.

Got some pics around that i might post later on. If i can't find MY one i might look into buying a different one at some point.

Pieman.

Oh p.s.... there's no cash reward.. just a mass of gratitude. 8)

Cheers Phuk,

I see Zanx is a member over here. That must be the same Zanx that bought my Akra full system from me just before i sold the bike. Shop offered the same price with or without the full system so i took it off and got a few £££ back.

If u see this Zanx, did u ever finish the project? Sounded like it was going to be amazing once completed.

What was the old site called? TRX850.net? And how many people came across to here from there?

There was a young lad called Tom (i think) with a black TRX, we went for a ride down at Box Hill and he spent 75% of the time on it's back wheel, the other 25% was spent with his knee planted in the tarmac. Is he still alive? Crazy mofo.

Firstly, good luck tracking down your old bike - managed to track mine down via members & admins here so it's probably your best starting point. If you can post pictures many of us keep an eye on certain bid sites so if it's changed hands recently one of us might recognise it?

To quantify Phuks comment - be careful you're not blinded by the romance of getting your old bike back, if you are at all suss about its current owners mechanical skills or a full history & the condition you expect act like Mike & do a moonwalk unless you have spare cash to sort it. The parts that most commonly fail & those most sought after rarely come up so sellers are now wise to their value (the forum is a good place to trade with other users tho)

Only talking from recent experience - good luck mate, keep us posted

Zanx is rarely here but a regular on another site I am a member of - as far as I know he still hasn't finished it!

Not sure about Tom

And there have been so many 'old' sites I'm not sure which one you mean

Cheers all for your comments.

The first time i tried hunting it down a couple of years ago the shop was still in touch with the new owner so i'd imagine (hope) it was in there being serviced. If i was offered the chance to buy it back i'd be all over it checking it out before parting with any cash but part of the reason i want the bike back is because i want something to work on and play around with. The Tuono is mint so there's nothing to do except clean it and ride it. I want a little project and to get my hands dirty. When i had the TRX, just before selling it i bought a new (then) model Fazer fairing and bracket with the intention of putting that on. I never got round to it as i was offered the CBR600RR soon after. Anyway, i don't think i've ever seen a TRX with that mod so would possibly have a go at doing that.

Checked last month with the dvla and it is still taxed so it hasn't been written off.

I remember the TRX's suffering with carb/emulsifier trouble on higher mileage bikes..now they're all getting on a bit is this still a problem and has anybody found a fix for this? Can't think of anything that used to crop up as a common fault.

Well until i find the cd with more pics on this is the best one. Shows the R1 calipers,Smoked Goodridge hoses and Crash bobbins. I did put some rearsets on it but i took them off before i sold it. It also had the standard light gold pipes on when it went. Was a Euro model but i changed the headlight from new and purchased new speedo internals from Yamaha from new so it has always been shown in mph. Dunno why people use horrible stickers when the whole new speedo face and workings cost me around £35. I suppose not all bikes are as cheap to replace.

Just been through the previous TRX of the month threads and the only one that is identical to mine is the one belonging to Youngy. I see he is no longer a member.
His bike that won in July 08 looks pretty much standard apart from the Blue spots and Goodridge hoses, but cannot tell from the angle of the pic if they are smoked.

Does he live down South by any chance? And anyone know if he's still got it? :?:

IIRC he was rear-ended at some traffic lights on a TRX so may have written it off??

Wasn't his off on a white one he spent a while modding, the red/black was one he bought off someone else here.

I might be wrong ... I often am!!!

Nope, on this (very rare) occasion,Jak, you are right! :D :D

Youngy got hit on the black/white TRX he bought to one of the meets.

Either before or after (after I think) he bought a P red black/red one from a guy in Stoke according to this thread....

http://www.trx850.motomaniac.net/forum/ ... lit=youngy

... I seem to remember he moved on from the world of TRXing anyway ... so would have sold it ...?

Fast work people, Thanks. Wasn't mine then anyway. As per DVLA tax request it still has the same private plate that i put on it. And also is still taxed and in use somewhere.

Cheers again.

Hi again all,
I think i might be making some progress. I have just visited the shop that last sold the TRX and have got some info.

Apparently it was bought by a ginger bloke called Rob from Crawley. The guy said that it was bought as a bit of a toy and as far as he knows this Rob bloke still owns it and it's hardly done any miles in the last 5 years he's owned it. Does that description ring any bells for anyone here?

I can ring the shop boss back later and see if they can find a number for him.. fingers crossed. 8)
