Running on one and Misfiring

Post by ferretkeeper » Tue Apr 05, 2011 9:00 pm

Hello
I am a new member to the forum. Got a 1996 TRX and have had it for 5 years. Just got some info off the forum and have fitted new emulsion tubes and it has transformed the bike. Went for a 200 mile run got within 10 miles back home and it lost power. It felt like it was on one cylinder. Did all the usual checks when I got it home ie carbs, check spark at plugs, checked resistance on ignition coils as per manual states. that was ok within tolerances. Also checked resistance on pick up coil and I think this maybe the problem.Does anybody know whether you can get a new pick up coil on its own or do you have to buy new stator complete with pick up coil? If so could you tell me where I can purchase one from.

Thanks in anticipation

Pat

First off, hello and welcome aboard. :D

if you've done the checks you say and narrowed it down to the pick-up, I'd first check with your Yamaha dealer as bits are still available and are either cheaper than you think or very expensive!

Also, check on www.wemoto.com as they do some pattern parts for the TRX.

Also, post up something in the Wanted section on this 'ere forum as theres a couple of guys breaking motors at the moment.

So, how many ferrets you got then? And do they smell as bad as mine used to?

Contact user 'scarfacehugo' you'll find a thread in the 'for sale' section, he should be able to sort you out.

Dave's blaming the ferrets for the smell again then?

sure you haven't just picked up a bit of crud back into the carbs or water in fuel???? I had a similar problem when I got low on fuel and picked something up from the bottom of the tank.

dont think so,as i thought that aswell so i stripped the carbs down and cleaned them out and still same problem,so then i thougt it must be ignition problems.thanks for reply anyway.
