Oily problem

Post by camsdad » Fri Apr 15, 2011 9:59 pm

I have had a 1996 TRX for a few months now and am over the moon with it but have a mystery oil leak that I can't figure out.

When I have been on a long ride I get an oil leak from the LH side of the bike. The oil sits on top of the LH crank case and looks as though it is coming from the tube that fits between the air box and a connection on the frame.

As I am new to the wonderful world of TRX I am still finding my way around the bike and can't figure out what is causing this leak.
Unless I am totally wrong I can't see that the bike stores oil in the frame and is as simple as hole causing the leak. I am presuming that the oil is being blown up the hose from the cylinder head, into the airbox and then running down the other hose and into the frame?

Can anyone help me with my problem

Thanks Gary

Have you overfilled the oil? Common mistake - see the 'oil questions' section for correct proceedure

I bought the bike in December and it had just had an oil change when I bought it. I check the oil everytime I ride and haven't had to top it up yet so I cant say for sure but the leak is getting worse.

G'day Gary, it's not coming from your crankcase breather is it?

It runs from the top of the rocker cover on the back left to the air box, I'd check that & make sure it all connected properly...

Otherwise pics might help...

Gary
has this happened only since you came off?
I thought it could have been from being over filled but if you havent added any oil then im pretty sure the level was good... it guess its possible it was slightly high but surely the leak wouldnt get worse?
