Removing cam followers or buckets

Hello, in the process of adjusting the valve clearances. Seems my exhausts are all good but inlets are way out. I have removed the camshaft and the followers remived easily from cylinder 2 but all three are stuck in cyliner 1. They spin but I cannot withdraw them.

Any ideas how to get them out, and why they would be stuck?

Utilise a valve lapping rubber on a stick. Or you can use a nice dollop of aquarium silicon (high strength stuff) and a suitable bolt. Clean the top of the bucket with a solvent / thinners / petrol or similar, let the silicon / bolt assembly harden over at least 12 hours then you should be able to utilise the bolt to pull the bucket away.
They might be coming up against burrs in the alloy too, have a good look around them, it commonly happens on TRX`s.
The `stiction` you are feeling is maybe due to the oil film underneath the bucket creating a kind of vacuum too.

Common problem. A burr forms at the edge of the cam bearing surface. Cut a disc of thin hard plastic the same size as the cam bucket to protect the top surface. Use a small file to work along the edge of the cam bearing near the bucket to remove the burr. Be sure to remove all filings.

This will be the problem I suspect. Cyclinder 1 is on the left? ie not the cylinder next to the cam chain? That's the one I had problems with when my inlets were too tight.

Thanks all for the response. Will let you know how I get on. Its my first biggish job on her and thought I may have done something wrong, Ive been following the Haynes manual. Not looking forward to putting it back together though, reckon itll be real fiddly.

Success, sort of. I have managed to remove one of the followers by filing the burrs but having difficulty with the other two. Think Ive got all the burrs so reluctant to just keep filing away. Will try Minces tip with the bolt and silicone and let you know. School boy error deciding to do this during the best weather weve had for a while but suppose it needed doing before all those summer trips.

Sorry for late reply. Yes silicone and bolt did the trick on two of them. Been working a lot and due to weather havent rushed to get it back together. Just gone to put the fuel tank on and tap is leaking. Bought one from the forum so should be back on the road soon. Cheers for all the help

hi mate, i recently had this problem on my own Trx and i found it was infact the burr problem. i only discovered it was the problem after much googling and it seemed it was almost common on yamaha singles and twins.
