Exhaust hangers Advice please

Post by handsomejackuk » Thu May 26, 2011 4:44 pm

Hi,

In the process of making some exhaust hangers, for my scorpion exhausts... Just a temporary solution until i am happy with the pipes...

What i wondered, do any other bikes have hangers with the same spacing between the frame mounts ? E.G. yamaha R6, or r1 with twin pipes, i need a slightly longer hanger for the scorpions to work...

Mince,

yeah i have seen those, not too keen on the design of those, will be making some of my own ?

Bit expensive too....

they have to be custom made anyway to my spec, as the scorpions are off a Hornet 900 and have different size exhaust clamp, and different drop....

I just wondered if R1 hangers had the same setup on the frame end... will have a look at some R1's in Abergavenny when i get chance to get down there.....

Thanks Anyway...

The R1 hangers want fit the TRX frame mate, The distance between the hole centres are different, cant remember off of the top of my head what they are but I know they are not the same. Anyway TRX has twin pipes the R1 hanger fitted to the TRX nearside would face the wrong way would it not????

Not that unkeen to ask for a better price though?

Seriously, no hard feelings :D

edit- you probably don't need any help, but be sure to get enough heat into the ally when you bend it otherwise it might tear. This is more applicable to 6082 than 5251 though.

I bought myself a pair of BOS hangers from eBay Germany. Have also Kayla's "version Mk I" but BOS hangers much beefier.

Yes, the first ones weren't very good, but I did make and sell a few pairs like the ones in the pic too, from 4.7mm aluminum which is an arse to bend.

The design of my new hangers-

is much better (3.3mm 5251 aluminium) and I used one on my TRX (pre-crash) without issues. I've got one on my FZR 4/6 too. An FZR one, not a TRX one. That wouldn't work.

Anyway, shameless plug over, if you want a refund on your first set of hangers just PM me :D

Kayla,

is there any way of telling what Aluminium sheet i have ? It has Green backing plastic on it is that any way of identifying it..? 3mm thick....

Not too bothered, as its only really a test to see if the Scorpion Exhausts are any good, if they not i wont be buying them...!!!

once i get the other one cut out I'll pop it up to my mate to put the bends in...? he runs a Aluminium Fab Shop, so he would know...

Can you do Hangers to my Spec if I send you a Drawing ?

And if so how much...?

OR my other option is to get some custom link pipes made up, and retain the Standardd Footpegs...

Decisions Decisions... 8) 8)

Hi Al,

Honestly, I don't know. I don't think so. You can buy test kits that'll tell you what's in the alloy or you could ask the place where you bought the sheet. The stock I buy is certified and traceable so I know what I'm buying (generally! ) but there's not going to be a huge amount of difference between 3mm 5000 and 6000 series for bolting a couple of cans to a bike.

c'mon you peeps.... someone must have used different hangers on their bike at some stage....

heres what i is needing...

suggestions please.. Cheap as possible as dont have much money....

Options..................

A/1. Retain the original footpegs, and lower them and space them out to accomodate the scorpion exhausts. (possibly a piece of billet machined to lower the original footpegs, and space out.)

A/2. retain the original footpegs, and lower them... Alter the exhaust strap so it is more of a p clip arrangement... i.e. not centre of the pipe offset to nearer the wheel.. then I dont need to space out the footpegs only drop them.... What strapping can i get do scorpion do different straps ????

this style strap....

B. custom made hanger.... ( could be expensive)

C. hangers off another bike and modify it... nice and cheap as loads on Ebay--- Suggestions please.........!!!!!!!!!-

D. have the link pipes reworked to tuck the exhaust up higher.. ( dunno if they can alter the bends) ??

E. have new link pipes made... (expensive)
