Running again ......... then not running

Post by zednine » Sat May 28, 2011 7:47 pm

Got my new engine installed yesterday :)

Finished all the plumbing this morning and it fired 1st time and sat there ticking over ..... lovely engine ...........perfect :)

Went for a spin and got about 1/2 mile .......... splutter .......backfire ......... dead :(

Pulled the alternator cover off and the 3 alternator wires were trapped over the ignition pickups and the worn through .......... oops , ah well easy fix

Repaired the wires and reassemble ................ no spark :(

Chuck tools down and give up for the day ............. bummer ........so near and yet so far

hope its just a blown fuse....but then more likely the ignition module has suffered....be handy if you can borrow one from a wrecker ...a quick possible problem solver....good luck

good one to have all the spares handy...just check that you have all possible further wireing problems sorted before you risk the new igniter...had an old Suzuki ts 185 many years ago...it would play up no end..usually et the bottom of a hill so i had to push the sod back home the hard way...a work friend had a friend that had a cousin once removed who wasnt related to my sister that had the same bike...and the igniter was swapped ...check your EARTH wires too...scratch the surfaces to ensure contact....cheers

Very valid points .......... I also have a spare alternator and pick ups still in the engine case so it should just be a plug and play job ............ shame really cos up till then the job was a breeze and the new engine is very sweet

Ok got stuck in today and fitted a new ignitor ........... nope still no spark :(

Tried to fit another alternor cover complete with windings and pickups ........ its a Tdm one and the wirings too short ........... bummer :(

Carefully cut open the Trx loom and voila ........ the wires are taped inside the loom and can be pulled back so managed to get the Tdm case on ......... Yipee ........loads of spark :)

So took a set of pickups from my original scrap engine case ......... soldered the wires together and fitted em into the new engines alternator cover ( the Tdm case was the wrong colour and I wanted to save it complete if I could ) boxed it all up and hit the button ......... result its perfect

New engine is lovely ....... my bike is now back on the road [-o< [-o< [-o<

It's red so it should be really quick.

I think the black slows them down.
