What is regarded as high KLM for the trx850?

as Kev noted...you just have to be a maintainence nut...my 1996 motor had 101,000 kays on it when i replaced it for a young 99model... and that was about 50,000 kays ago.....the only reason that i changed the old pump was that it had a noisey third gear...the valves and cam chain were regularly maintained and a new clutch fitted....thats the on the old engine....id reacon a new cam chain every 50,000 to be sure enough...a good time to adjust the shims as well....otherwise give it the bejessus....wheeeeeee...oh and i hope that the dog in your avatar photo trims his NAILS,, as he could give a NASTY scratch...

yer thats the secret oil/filter changes every 3to4000km..I'm upto 108,000km and I find myself up around the redline with no fear. only changed the camchain at 100,000 ..and uses upto 500mm oil in a change

mine just clocked up 170K,(got it at 16K) still runs a treat, had a cam chain at 129K, tappet shims at the same time. Oil changes every 3-5K, still gets 320km+ to a tank but I am going to do the jets/needles as I heard these wear and might make the engine run better in the mid-range on light throttle. Got a Scottoiler so only been thru 4 chains, 4 front sprockets, 1 rear sprocket, 1 rear disc, 2 front discs, 5 sets front brake pads, 7 sets rear pads, 1 set front wheel bearings, 8 sets tyres, 1 chain giude (plastic, sits on top/front of the swingarm), 3 headlight globes (no other globes have blown during my time with the bike

thats got to be the highest kilometers that ive heard of..where are you from-- and i think many lost their speedo cable early as the lower sheath unscrewed and the inner drive cable fell out as well..

Seriously? You get nearly 20k out of your tyres?

And 320km from a tank (that's 200 miles for the UK set).

yeah 20K for tyres although a couple of times I got nails, that wrecked 2 tyres almost new. Oh and I forgot to add 2 sets spark plugs, 2 speedo cables, 1 speedo drive (the plastic gear stripped), one battery (amazingly the original battery went 10 years, guess that's because I ride every week day, the new battery is already
on the way out though) never changed fork oil or seals, never had the engine open except for timing chain.
Things needing attention now includes the steering head bearing, started to feel a notch straight ahead, there is a random rattle in the engine (could be something loose, makes the same rattle when I ride over bumps on the road) at 2800-3100rpm. I am currently getting 50,000+ out of a chain, the last one I replaced because the connecting link wore out, the rest of the chain seemed fine.
Average speed on the bike is around 50km/h most of its life.
It is the most reliable machine I have owned apart from my old Chrysler Centura.

@phuk72 the most km I had from a tank was 365km (17t front sprocket), I guess in pommy-git-land its so friggn cold and the road so friggn crap the bike chews more juice and tyres.
BTW there aren't too many corners on the freeway between home and work, but plenty of trucks to dodge
