Vee Two cams

Hi.
There's an offer on eBay Germany for a set of Vee Two racing cams for the TRX.
He states that they will put out somewhat 100PS on a stock 850 engine and 105-110PS on the bigbore engine
Is there any truth in that? Will I loose all the low power torque if I fit these b*stards?

A little `guilding the lilly` I would say, a stock engine with JUST the cams would not make the 100 bhp mark but with a good exhaust system some porting and FCR`s it`s possible.

A stock engine with cams alone will make virtually no difference at all. In simple terms - an engine works on how the fuel enters & exits an engine with an explosion in the middle. If you increase or accelerate any of these processes you (might) gain power. High lift cams simply alter lift or duration & if not done with other mods can actually bugger the characteristics of an engine. Unless you are going the 'full' tuning route i wouldn't bother with cams as a stand alone mod - a well carburated bike will give much better results & then maybe think about cams? Also remember that different cam profiles will give varying results & can be used to 'move' the power around - full on race profile cams usually mean you'll end up chasing revs which in my mind defeats the object of a big twin unless you only ever ride on track. Kent cams do a TDM re-profile (YAM9) which is aimed more at a mid range tune which works well but again only really worthwhile alongside other engine mods.

I can tell you from experince that cams alone (on a stock motor) are worth little more than a couple of bhp.

With gas flowing (on top of free flowing pipe and air box) you might see 10 bhp but nothing more.

I have dyno charts somewhere that I can post.

Thanks for your replies - the cams went for 232 euros - way too much for me.
So I guess I'll keep looking for a set of headers to match my Shark oval cans/Mikuni TDMR40's.
(Think it's weird that they are so hard to get....)

Free flowing exhauts should be at the top of your shopping list - you are strangling the bike with stock headers

Over, Akrapovic, MAB, Yoshimura, some `rare` oddballs out there too. It`s a matter of searching the WWW and keeping an eye out on places like this forum etc.
Many are still in production, Over in Stainless, MAB in mild steel and some hellishly expensive Titanium stuff in Japan but it is beautifully hand crafted with pressure formed bends.
Depends how deep your pockets are ..........................................

Not sure where they are now but the stuff they did make was lovely. And rivalled Akrapovic in terms of power output as well.

With the added bonus (if you see it as a bonus) of being twin sided
