petrol in oil

A while ago the trx wouldn't start and then ran rough after a wash. I thought I had soaked something as it felt like a coil breaking down at speed.

I sprayed this area with gt85 and when next called upon yhe bike started as usual.

I have read here recently a few instances of rough running and petrol in the oil which sparked a thought that my oil consumption and level were good these days and I'd better check.

Yes my oil looked thin in the glass and smelled of petrol when I dropped it today. There are no other symptoms at the moment, no petrol leaks or smell of petrol, bike has been used a couple of times in the last few days and has run well.

What do you think I should suspect first, tap, pump or emulsion tubes, or could the problem have sorted itself and is now running ok?

I would check fuel tap first,to see if it drips or leaks.

Yep, fuel tap and fuel pump diaphragms need to be checked, best not to run the bike til you do.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've got oil and filter on the way from ebay but will run cheap oil through first.

Will have a look tomorrow and order bits from Fowlers. Might get both tap and pump bits just in case. Also thinking of Factory Pro emulsion tubes, will I need their titanium needles also?

I think the Factory Pro emulsion tubes come with needles, or am I talking shite folks? I`ve never bought them, got FCR`s.

FPs can come with needles but they're really for track rather than road use - very quick taper at low end and a bassad to setup. I ended up using Yam needles with FP tubes for a road engine

Thanks Dandy, I was hoping to just buy the tubes due to the price difference for the jetting kits plus tubes.

Haven't looked at the bike yet this morning but looking at Wemoto web site last night, they no longer seem to do a repair kit for the tap.

Hi Andyaber,

I just had my carbs done & also got advice from the good folk on here. I fitted FP emulsion tubes (cheaper & nickel plated) but the
general concensus was that it'd need setting up/retuning if using the FP kit (or needles) Due to no trustworthy dyno owners over here,
I opted for genuine Yamaha needles instead. (more expensive than FP but obviously a known product)
Haven't ridden it much due to shite weather but fuel economy has increased to where it was (or better -haven't been quite that far yet!)
& feels good in the carb setup.

Talking to Yamaha today and got qouted nearly £50 each for std yam needles but I guess I'm going to need them.

I've got fp tubes on the way also.

Needles here = AUD $102.00 each retail - as I wasn't certain they'd be required, I let my "carb rebuilder" order them if required -
looking at the total bill from him, I guess he got them at a better "trade" price though.
