Flat spot

Post by m8rty » Sun Jul 31, 2011 4:23 pm

I have recentley fitted a pair of Blueflame Cans and had the carbs re jetted and a K&N fitted and also the bike set up on the rolling road at a dynojet centre. It really has smoothed out the throttle response but when I back off a bit at speed and then give it some again it seems to have a small lag before the power picks up again? Any sugestions/advice?

A bit beyond my technical brief there Mincehead haha, it seemed to check out ok when the guy explained it to me on the Dyno and seems though he has a lot of experience and is well recommended I took his word that all was ok. I'm no Barry Sheene(probably showing my age) and its just a bit annoying really as it has sorted the bike out nicely bar this issue?

What gear/RPM?

I've noticed something similar on my bike, but only when backing off or holding constant throttle around 5-6K RPM to get through a corner without changing gear.

It's either a jettting problem or a CV carb problem, I've richened up the main jet one step, but I'm not sure it's helped...

Yep.

Take it back to the place that dyno'd it and tell him to do a proper job.

Chances are he has cut corners and just set up the bike to work on WOT. Depending on what you paid him / asked him to do this may cost you a few quid.

When my bike was set up, it was run at a number of throttle openings with specific focus on being smooth on partial throttle.

Thanks Lads for the Input :) I wonder if the fact that it was a really hot day when the work was carried out had any impact on how it was set up. All I asked for was a Stage 1 dyno jet kit and K&N to be fitted and set up on the rolling road to suit the Blueflame cans. I just assumed that would have been it
It may be about 6000 rpm aswell it happens

Unfortunately, there are a few mechanics and dyno operators who will cut corners or just use base settings without taking the time to properly fuel the bike.

If I was you, I would pull all of the foam off the outside of the airbox and put some 3mm spacers at the front of the tank (yoke end) as this increases the flow of air.

Then take it back to the dyno palce and explain to them it ain't running right and ask them to sort it.
