Remember mate this a world wide forum and what happens in one country maybe completely different in anotherBullet wrote:I thought ethanol was mixed in all fuels now at a ratio of 5% rising to 10% in the future?

Re: engine implode?
In the UK all 'spirit' fuels are 5% ethanol, and have been for 18mths (ish). The UK is moving towards 10% soon - Just been working on a project to introduce E10 for Morrisons. E10 is a massive jump from E5 so it wont be overnight that the change is made. I believe in Germany drivers simply boycotted it as it does so much damage to older cars.
It will be the ethanol killing the fuel tap as gaskets used on pipework connections on petrol stations have all been changes to a newer plastic type rather than a 'cork' type as the ethanol eats it, and then makes it look like the line has failed when air gets in and fuel runs back to the tank. Its the same principle whats happening with the fuel tap...

Re: engine implode?
Well I`ll be boycotting it for sure, the Acerbis GRP tank on my Skorpion will definately melt with 10% ethanol in there!
Don`t get me wrong I`m all for sensible changes but where is the compensation for folk who have to modify their bikes or cars fuelling systems, fuel tanks and in the case of two strokes perhaps crankcase seals and reed blocks too?

Re: engine implode?
yeah that sounds spot on,Ill check that tomorrow. As for dodgy fuel some servos down here have been fined for adding ethanol to fuel to increase there profits,my other bike with injectors does not like it!alextrx850 wrote:gidday there red, im thinking you might have the TRX fuel tap or diaphram virus thats been going around lately..any loud pop or bank is likely to be fuel, and the [oil] that you report leaking from an exhaust flange is probably excess fuel from the cylinder head mixing with the carbon ...the carbon might suppress the flavour of the stale fuel as well...also you suggest that the engine oil level has risen....if the motor sounds mechanically noisey, maybe the fuel has washed the lubricating oil from the bores as the engine struggles to clear itself..and hence a loud bang as the massive fuel charge fires in the exhaust from the one clean cylinder [ being that one will be clean as the bike was on its side stand]..and then as the engine lubes itself again, it runs sweetly up to 5 grand as youve said....these motors are pretty tough little mothers..hard to really break one mechanically...im reaconing its a fuel tap problem...good luckReddog wrote:the running noise was like a fuel starved on one cylnder,a big pop/fart and stressed, very mechanicly noisy.
I turned it on again this arvo and it backfired and ran up to 5grand,sweet and sound fine, however Im still concerned and do not want to ride it till I have some idea.
