Why you can turn the existing tap into a striaght on/off/reserve tap without the vacumm attatched. Search on here for my posts and there is details of how to do this its easy.
My bike maybe a dinosaur but it still has some bite & has a mighty roar.

Want to make sure everything is wright before I go out on the bike.
After what I have spent putting my bike wright £100.00 is not that bad when you consider what a motor rebuild costs.

I can understand that, and of course you WILL be adding it to the list of issues and faults you`ll be taking the previous owner to court over eh?

Howdy all just got my first TRX a 96 with a few Klms up its sleve (50000) had the valves done and a service but after 2000 klms the oil smells of Fuel .. Havnt got a manual and not sure if the fuel tap has an off position, I can only read on,(Down) PR, (to the right) and Fuel Res (at Top), A lot of reading on fuel taps with probs but is there an off,? The first of many Question that will arise, They are a nice bike to ride!!

there is no off position, they are vacuum operated, so with no vacuum no fuel should flow. But they commonly fail. You can either replace it with a simple on/off/reserve tap or repair it.
However, even with the tap on all the time you should not be getting fuel in the oil at the fuel should not get past the carbs
I would expect that if you have fuel in the oil that you actually have an issue with fuel getting past the float valves.
You might have the float level way too high of dirt in the float bowl preventing the float valve from seating or a worn float valve or valve seat
there is a manual available in the download section of the forum, but you should also put an intro up and say g'day
