ebay wavey floating front discs - any good?

hi

has anybody got the ebay wavey floating front discs fitted to their TRX?
are they any good?
or should i stay away from them altogether

I don't have any experience of those particular discs but my experience tells me that cheap discs are invariably shite and a false economy

And I thought I was happy with mine until I tried a bike with proper discs and realised how little feel, power and initial bite these crappy stainless steel discs have.

You'd be amazed by the 'problems' or piss poor settings some people ride around.

I was blown away when I changed to proper discs and will never again attempt to save a few pennies by buying cheap.

I managed to warp one of mine but compared to stock TRX discs the Chinese wavy`s are a big improvement.
Warped one of mine after hooning around some borders roads after a 916 on a very warm day, stock calipers too! I eventually ended up loosing him after he got a sphincter tightening moment on some gravel.
I do agree with Phuk though, until you buy quality and use it you might well think they are the dogs danglies. I don`t use my TRX for track stuff, apart from the odd 1/4 mile run or two.

Things may have changed but the ones I had were utter crap and went in the bin as soon as I could afford Braking discs.

not a front set..but these rear were around 45 dollars delivered and pull up well, not that i use the rear much anyway..more the better for a quality front for me with the gold spots..cant argue on the pricing of the front n rear waveys off track though...

I have used the ones from S3 performance as I needed a short term cheap option . I was happy with them and have had no problems. Was only using them on the road and found them to be fine as I wasn't expecting the performance of a Brembo, Galfer or other big $$$$ brands. That said, at hard braking from motorway speeds there was still enough bite to lighten the rear end
I should also say that this was with 4 pot brembos, EBC HH pads and brembo radail m/c, so not exactly the stock brake set up.

I would still use the big $$$$ brands if I was headed to the track or wanted better braking performance though, as you do get what you pay for. As I approach the end of my rebuild it is Galfer / Brembo all round for the good one cause I would rather spend $$$$ first on stopping faster before I spent a whole bunch on going faster.

The reduced mass cools quicker, the profile also helps clear any residual pad material every time the brake is applied and they`ll clear water better too.
Of course, you`ll find your brake pad life reduced and they make more noise when applied.
Before wavy there were variations of drilled and grooved discs, some manufacturers like AP Racing still favour radial grooves actually.
There is a slight bonus in saving on unsprung weight (aids suspension) and less rotating mass (aids turn in) too.

Generally road and circuit racers do not use them but I`ve seen some who do at club racing levels.

yeah I think wavey discs are one of those fashionable but pointless additions to a bike, although it is cool when it looks like you have a couple of shurikens attached your front wheel

Actually the heat sink effect is larger. The other main cooling theory behind wavy discs is that the edge of the disc has greater surface area than a circular disc and therefore the greater surface area affords better air cooling and more efficient heat dispersion.
The slightly reduced mass has advantages in gyroscopic forces.
The overall principal is to reduce mass while increasing surface area.
Of course it doesn't hurt that they look trick as well
