Hi All!
Time to get stuck into my winter, now spring overhaul!
I need to cure the oil burning problem, so new rings, new valve stem seals & a hone is in order, if you know someone who can check over both my bores, pick the best one & hone it perfection, I'd appreciate the recommendation. I also need them to check a score on my cam journals & heads for warpage.
I haven't done this before, so I'm a bit out of my depth at the moment
Thanks in advance, Mick.

G'day Mick,
How have you been? I've been in a black hole of no internet service since I moved house 9 months ago but finally got service in the area so am back on line.
I recall some time ago hearing there was one or two TRX guns at Stafford Yamaha when they were doing the Over Racing stuff. Might be worth a call to see if he/they are still there or moved elsewhere.
Cheers,
Stu
It must be true, I read it on the internet.

So was I when I started Mick, but learned fast. If you want to DIY, I'll give whatever help I can.
Ride Well!
Cheers, Dave.

G'day Stu, been good mate, it's been a while since we've seen you around here! I forgot about Staffords, thanks for the tip. Someone has suggested Balls have done good work in the past too, probably worth a ring around.

I'll be doing as much as I can by myself Davamb, cheers for the offer. Might be handy to pick the brain of someone who's been there before!
Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

Dave and I have both been down this road before, I just did the valves, seals, cam chain, waterpump, chain and sprockets on mine but dave has done his rings and bore as well. It's a really good job to do yourself, and the TRX is a good engine to start on if you havn't done a big job before. Just need time and patience. If money is not a problem, yeah a local dealer is the way to go, I was quoted $1200 for the parts alone, you'd be looking at a lot in labor as well. DIY you can get away with parts from the US for around $700 (that's what I paid for the bits mentioned above). Here's the original post,

Think JL has done his engine too, so between the three of us, there's not much that we couldn't sort.
If I had to do it again, the only thing I'd do different from last time would be to take the engine out of the frame and work on it on the bench. Would be so much easier that I reckon it would compensate for the extra time. Failing that, a decent bike stand to raise the whole thing up to working level. The working environment is crucial. Don't mess around on a cold, poorly-lit floor. Make it easy on yourself.
Give it a go Mick, you will gain a deep understanding of the bike and save at least a grand which you could put towards adding other goodies.
Ride Well!
Cheers, Dave.

Thanks for the info & support guys, really appreciate it!
I've got clicked through an order at Partshark.com for all the bits I need, I'll wait till they get here before I start! Rings, valve seals, gaskets & camchain.
I am planning on taking the engine completely out Dave, I've built a stand & it's all ready to go.
At this point, I've stripped down my old engine, so I know pretty much how it should all go, not too complicated & I reckon it should go fine

Other 2c worth is to put everything in labeled lunch bags and take pics at every step as you go.
Ride Well!
Cheers, Dave.

I've got some compartmented containers to put stuff in, but I didn't think of lunch bags, good one!
Partshark got back to me this morning, cylinder gasket is backordered for 4-6 weeks, I'll have to see if I can source on locally... $16.16 US from Partshark...

$26.35 from Mr. Yamaha up the road. Not too bad, I guess.

I did alright at Peter Stevens in Ringwood Mick, usually had the parts next day and gave me an email to say they were in. Prices were amongst the best in town. As usual, no affiliation, etc, etc, etc...
Ride Well!
Cheers, Dave.
