If you use silicon around electrical connections make sure it is a "neutral cure" type. Other types produce acetic acid (vinegar) as they cure which will cause more problems than your trying to fix.

Absolutely acids and copper / alloy connectors do not mix well, although saying that some slightly corroded terminals may get a little chemical clean from the acetic acid released as the silicon cures.
The RTV gasket type has never caused me any issues over the years that I know of.

I once left the spark plug cap off the l/h spark plug & rode to work in the rain, ran like an absolute dog, took me a while to figure that one out.

Check that out & the carbs, I would definitely be checking the coils, there are test instructions in the service manual for the coils & leads, & obviously, check your air filter is as should be.

check your vacuum pipe on the fuel tap

Just been going over points mentioned in this thread.so the first thing I checked was the breather pipe that comes down from the fuel tank past the fuel tap and down under the bike. To my amazement I found the pipe had a rubber bung stuck in the end of it. I kind of looked like it belonged there tbh. Anyways I removed this and now the bike actually goes. Why would there be a bung in there????

Maybe someone thought that petrol had been `leaking` from it so blocked it up? It would only show any signs of petrol leaking from it if fuel was spilled around the filler cap well when it was being fuelled.
I`m amazed the last owner managed to ride it, didn`t you test ride it when you bought it?

I bid on the bike and won it. I kind of took a gamble really. No I did not test ride it because I don't actually hold full motorcycle licence yet. Got my test on 1st December. The bike runs now but not perfect. Once the engine is warmed up and choke has been switched off the bike pops a bit but if you put choke on just a little bit the bike runs pretty much spot on. Maybe it just needs opening up down the motorway if so it will have to wait for me to pass my test

Anytime Mincehead lol. Another question for ya... I have purchases some motad venom cans to fit to bike. Is it safe to just fit them and ride or do you need to change air filter to a more free flowing one.

TRX`s are set up on the rich side so rejetting for race cans is normally not required.
There are some other members near you too, maybe someone closer to Leeds than me will visit to take her out for you on a shakedown run?

Only have 1 mate who has a bke licence and he's been banned otherwise he would be off to blow the cobwebs away. If I fit these cans do I need some exhaust paste around each sleave before clamping up or do you just clamp em up.

Depends on how snugly they fit, a little jointing paste wouldn`t hurt but often when it dries the sound / vibrations simply shake it back out!
Unless they leak badly at the joints it`ll not fail an MOT, the tester will be too busy working out if it`s too loud or not.
