squared off tyres

Been doing a lot of motorway miles and my rear tyre profile looks a bit flat ( squared off ) the handling feels a bit off, back end feels a bit twitchy and it's not cornering as well - is this likely to be the tyre profile? whats the symptoms of a squred off tyre? BTW there is still a fair bit of tread on the rear Dunlop road smart

When was the last time u checked tyre pressure ?

Went on the bike to work yesterday, as soon as I got on the dual carriageway it started to really piss down, it was also pitch black and I couldn't see a thing. Had a severe case of sphincter twitch what with the gusting winds as well. Turned round, came home and went in the car.

The back end just didn't feel right - anyway checked tyre today 2.4mm on rear road smart and quite squared off - so probably the reason for the dodgy feel. What do you reckon?

It will be exactly that.

Think of the profile of a new tyre, rolling from side to side as you lean over.

Then look at your tyre and imagine the same thing: lots of different unsmooth stems to roll over.

Probably more noticeable on brands like Dunlop, Bridgestone, Michelin where the tyre profile is more triangular, whereas Metzeler and Pirelli have a more rounded,flatter profile.
And squareing off doesn't seem to affect them that much. Just my 2c

As has been said, it very much depends on the tyre profile to start with but as soon as tyres start to square off I'd be chucking them away - it's all that's keepinig you shiny side up

If you want a cheap (ish) pair of new tyres I've got some in the garage.

1 pair of Pirelli Diablos - have done 10 laps of Mallory (they are the control tyre for Desmo Due racing) - Â£100 ono posted to the UK

1 pair of Pirelli Diablo Super Corsa. Although these may not be the best for motorway sue

- Â£90 ono posted to the UK

bad enough having a bike that weaves, let alone side to side rocking, following road irregularities etc.
make you seasick wouldn't it?

Cheers chaps I was getting a bit windy, going from a bike that handled really well, that I had every confidence in to this was a bit worrying. As I do quite a long commute I may try the new Dunlop Roadsmart 2's or possible try some stickier sportsmarts?? I have done over 6,000 miles on the set of Roadsmarts I have on the bike now, which is pretty damn good. Still suggestions welcom as I want the unachievable ideal - good grip and milage

Took bike out the garage - guess what front puncture! Went for my tyres, the garage had no Road smarts, so got some Michelin road Pilot 3's, been told these are v good tyres. Went to fit them everything OK but then found RHS wheel aduster bolt totally seized in YZF swing arm! Tried loads of WD40 - any ideas

corrosion must be a real problem over your way, listening to the comments on removeing the headders....sheeesh
Your yzr rear will be as you know alloy and the bolt steel, so its only the penetrating oil that will help...[ ELECTROLISIS ]
Cant NOT imagine spraying the bike [carefully, an old bed sheet over the tyres ] on a regular basis....even for me over here in OZ.

No magic trick to sorting this one really, just the usual: penetrating oil (i prefer 3in1 to WD40), a good fitting spanner maybe with a small extension bar and some GENTLE heat on the bolt to ease in the oil.
Be careful of the bifferent metal types though like alex says.
Gonna be difficult to get penetrating oil to run uphill into the thread though if the swinger is still in the bike. Be easier with it out, but thats a ball-ache.
The last thing you wanna do is round anything off or worse still, snap anything off.

Success, dropped the wheel out and was able to get hex 3/8 socket on offending rounded off seized bolt. Slowly took it out add ing plenty of pentrating oil and it came out. Retapped the thread and fitted new adjuster with plenty of copper slip. Then just as was finishing dropped the bike on it's side - crash bungs helped, but broke mini indicator and new clutch lever - Bollox
