Hi guys,
Thank god for this resource. Just purchased a 97 with 37,000km (or so she reads
) just like the one on the forum picture only not quite as tidy.
Anyway, it had some foam filters on it which I thought were giving some low rev power and stuttering issues (going off peoples comments on here). I tried to pop the old box back on but a) its a bugger to get down on the carbs (even with a little washing liquid) and b) it keeps popping off the flanges?!
Still getting the stuttering post 5000rpm on full throttle.
Has anyone had an issue with this, I thought it would be a nice fit (unless the bike is bent out of shape?!)

Are you doing them up too tight? Or too loose?

Nope they're not too tight just a bad fit..they're the standard carbs.
There doesn't appear to be a lip or anything on the carb,.
Not a common issue then.....

Is the plastic sticky-out bit on the front of the airbox located correctly in the rubber grommet on the frame?
Black '99: Race Tech fork springs/emulators, R6 Shock, FCR41's, Modified airbox with K&N filter, Omrae carbon mufflers, R1 brakes, Toby steering damper, and;
Black '01: unmodified, 100% original, and;

Yes,
not sure why it just keeps working itself off the tops and won't sit on the carb correctly. Obviously not a common fault then.... might try taking the trumpets out and checking their fitment etc.

The rubber can deteriorate like on one TRX I bought ... give it a waft with heat gun, pop it down on the carb and fit a zip tie to make sure it's a good, closed fit. It should locate at the front on a lug IIRC, if it does then there's not much reason for it popping off again.
If you are still struggling you can tape some foam to the top of the airbox to help the tank keep it pressed in position.

Awesome! cheers for the tip. I'll check the heat option out. Thought it might have been the original foam being loose or something as well. Its in the lug but not sound so the foam option makes complete sense!
Just ordered a jet kit so I'll have her in pieces over the next week......

assuming the design is almost the same as a tdm, this is what i was advised to do.
remove the airbox,the tdm one splits in two,remove the carb to airbox trumpets and place in hot water, then attache to the carbs(mine wrer a bugger even with new hose clips) then fit the bottom half of the airbox over the trumpets then fit the top half of the airbox, should take 10 mins took me over an hour
