Re: Why, Oh Why, Oh Why.
What I did was, I lifted the tank and pulled apart and sprayed every block connector I could see and get to. I pulled the ht leads and unscrewed the surpressor and sprayed inside the caps and leads. I undid the wire connectors that go into the coils and sprayed inside those. I have ordered some new NGK caps and some new plugs just incase. I think the shrouds around the plugs were tight, but water by its very nature could have got in down the plug holes. Am I right in thinking eventually it will dry out anyway, or is this to much to wish for. Also could water have got into the carb(s)...thanks David.

yes - it will dry out eventually!Kenvis Repesco wrote: Am I right in thinking eventually it will dry out anyway, or is this to much to wish for. Also could water have got into the carb(s)...thanks David.
And I would suggest it is highly unlikely that water has got into the carbs unless there are big holes in your airbox or your carbs rubbers are serioulsy split (but you woudl have know about these before as you woudl have experienced running problems)

ACF50 really is the dogs danglies, though at a price!
Ever tried it on a chain Phuk? I used the dregs from a can after it was close at hand and my Motul chain lube wasn`t, WOW, a very sweet running chain I can tell you.
Although I do confess I have used WD40 on a chain (and in fact carry a small can in my euro touring kit for that very reason)

Nooooooooooo.......... Don't ever use WD40 on an o-ring chain! It cleans the 'heavier' lubricant out away from the o-rings leaving effectively little or no lubrication on the rollers themselves which is where you need it

WD40 also makes some plastics brittle, usualy the white plastic the manufactures use in door locks and ignition switches.

Re: Why, Oh Why, Oh Why.
Well, I tried the TRX again and it still has the described problem. So I took the carbs of, removed the float bowls, and found a light grey powder in the bottom of the float bowls. It just looks like cement dust. On blowing down one of the orrifices inside the carb body, the hole just behind the float some more of this light Grey dust came out this time damp with petrol...this cant be good can it ?. I am gonna get my carbs stripped and ultrasonically cleaned, is this a good idea, as always your help greatfuly recieved. Thanks David.

Mine is heated too, originally specced for cleaning s/s bellows before they were fusion welded. the bellows were used in flow meters in Royal Navy type 22 frigate fuel oil systems.

Someone weeping over the loss of those, as are not cheap, used to use them for cleaning flux off aluminium A/C pipes after brazing

This is just pure conjecture on my part...but. I reckon the strange grey powder in my carbs could have been instrumental in the destruction of my carb needles. To me it would make perfect sense. I am still at a loss at what it could possibly be though.

Re: Why, Oh Why, Oh Why.
The needles vibrate within the emulsion tubes because of lugging a stock geared TRX around town a lot, a natural frequency must virtually `buzz` them and they wear pretty quickly in some folks bikes.
I reckon that white / grey powdery residue will just be aluminium oxidisation personally.

What is the best gearing to use on the TRX, could I just change the rear sprocket. Thanks again.

Re: Why, Oh Why, Oh Why.
The stock gearbox procket should be a 17, if you go up to a 42 or 43 on the rear (from the stock 39) it really livens up the bike and you`ll lose maybe 25 mph off the top end.
Makes for a better mannered bike in town and one that kicks it`s heels better around the twisties.
B&C express will sort you out:

I think the 0300 is the TRX type but just ring and speak to them:

Yep blank type is a 300 as confirmed at the Wemoto sprocket page:
http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/yamaha/trx_ ... s_3_teeth/
Good dimensioned drawing there too.
