Hrmm... sounds like this might have to go on the back burner since I'm currently short of work space (long story). Quick short things like a compression check I can do, but anything that involves having bits apart for an extended period and requiring somewhere clean and dry to store them is not really possible right now..

C'mon Foo, at least do the compression test. Some data is better than none when attempting to draw conclusions.

Best place to put them is in the dishwasher - that way they get a good clean as well

gotta look after the troops in the trenches
once you have your comp reading its a starting reference point and write it down and ask the bike shop if they did any work or replaced any parts in the carbs.
They may have replaced needles, or possibly tubes .. If you do anything to the top end and if the carb's have been rebuilt by the shop then all the inlet side of the motor will be good then
Stay positive mate...
try the additive and keep a little in the bottle if it doesn't clear things up,try a little straight down the air intake.with the airfilter out ,mix in a spray bottle and squirt it down to give it a blast on and off as you open the trottle. it may smoke a little but fear not...
Just keep an eye on the colour of your oil over the next few 100k's also through the site glass.
The oil should stay pretty clean for a good couple of 1000K's normally
This will give you an indication possibly if you have a major problem with compression blowing by the rings also and down into the bottom of the motor therefore contaminating the oil. also any oil usage
Just plod along ,keep a record of what has been done, keep an eye on things here and there...
